Impact Driscoll was acquired from the Rays in exchange for cash earlier this week, and he's now joining the big-league roster. The Marlins are already carrying three catchers on their active roster, so the corresponding roster move will likely involve another backstop. Driscoll has slashed .250/.343/.368 with three home runs in 43 games with Triple-A Durham this season.

Adds catching depth to Miami organization The Marlins acquired Driscoll from the Rays on Wednesday in exchange for cash, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

Impact Driscoll saw time in the big leagues with Tampa Bay late in the 2024 season and was part of the 40-man roster to begin the 2025 campaign, but he ended up being released last August after missing extensive time due to a right ankle injury. He re-signed with Tampa Bay on a minor-league deal shortly after his release and has served as organizational catching depth at Triple-A during the current season, slashing .243/.337/.355 with three home runs and one stolen base over 176 plate appearances at Durham. He'll give the Marlins organization another body behind the plate and will report to Triple-A Jacksonville, where he'll join Garret Forrester and Bennett Hostetler as the club's backstops.

Back in action in minor leagues Triple-A Durham activated Driscoll (ankle) from its 7-day injured list Friday and assigned him to Single-A Charleston.

Impact Driscoll, who opened the year on the injured list, completed a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League Rays and then Charleston before being reinstated. The 28-year-old catcher is under a minor-league contract with Tampa Bay and has made seven appearances for the Single-A club overall, batting .231 with three extra-base hits, five RBI and one walk across 26 at-bats so far.

Impact Driscoll reached the majors for the first time in September and was given the chance for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he never made much of a case for one of the Rays' two available catcher jobs. He played in just two Grapefruit League games before going down with a right ankle injury that has kept him out of action since Feb. 25. If he's able to move past the injury within the next week, Driscoll should be in store for regular at-bats at Durham, while the Rays proceed with Danny Jansen and Ben Rortvedt as their catching tandem at the big-league level.

Seeing doctor about ankle Driscoll has been sidelined after rolling his right ankle and will see a doctor Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Driscoll is on the 40-man roster, but as Topkin notes, Driscoll likely was headed to Triple-A to start the year regardless of health. He slashed .288/.362/.468 with seven home runs in 72 minor-league games a season ago.

Cracks first career homer Driscoll went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Friday's 3-1 win at Cleveland.

Impact The 26-year-old rookie opened the game's scoring when he slugged a 393-foot, two-run homer off Tanner Bibee in the third inning for his first long ball. Driscoll is currently the reserve backstop in Tampa Bay behind Ben Rortvedt, as he's now hitting .235 (4-for-14) over his first six MLB games. He did flash a solid bat at Triple-A Durham before his promotion, slashing .292/.367/.473 with seven homers across 293 plate appearances, so it's possible the Rays give him more playing time down the stretch.

Dealing with quad bruise after fall Driscoll was diagnosed with a left quadricep contusion after he was removed in the seventh inning of Saturday's 7-1 win over the Orioles, MLB.com reports.

Impact He suffered the injury in question in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he was tracking a popup off the bat of the Orioles' Adley Rutschman. Driscoll reeled in the catch for the out, but his momentum carried him into a post near the Tampa Bay dugout, and he stumbled down the stairs. The rookie backstop eventually got back on his feet in obvious pain and stayed in the game, but he was pulled from the contest after he was noticeably limping down the first-base line on a two-run infield single in the top of the seventh. The Rays didn't call up another catcher from the minors, so the expectation is that Driscoll will be ready to play the next time he's needed to replace No. 1 backstop Ben Rortvedt.
