Hitting bench Thursday Hicks is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Hicks will take a seat for the day game after a night game, opening up a start behind the dish for Rob Brantly. While Nick Fortes is on the injured list due to a Grade 1 oblique strain, Hicks should see the bulk of the starts at catcher. The Rule 5 pickup is batting .194 with no home runs, seven RBI and four runs over 43 plate appearances on the season.

Drives in three runs Tuesday Hicks went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Mets.
Impact Hicks got the scoring started Tuesday with a two-run single in the first inning, and he added a third RBI in the sixth when his groundout to first brought Griffin Conine across home plate. After starting the season 0-for-8, Hicks has logged a hit in four of his last five outings and has gone 5-for-14 with one double and four RBI across that span.

Returning to bench Hicks is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Impact After starting the last three games while top backstop Nick Fortes dealt with a stiff neck, Hicks will retreat to the bench now that Fortes has seemingly moved past the issue. A Rule 5 draft pick over the winter, Hicks has appeared in six games so far this season and has gone 4-for-17 with an RBI.

Impact Hicks was originally scheduled for a day out of the starting lineup, but he's since been added, as Nick Fortes was scratched due to neck stiffness. This will be Hicks' third straight start at catcher and his fourth over the Marlins' past five games.

First big-league start Friday Hicks is starting at catcher and batting seventh in Friday's contest versus the Pirates.
Impact After Nick Fortes got the call behind the plate in Thursday's opener, Hicks will do the catching Friday in what will be his major-league debut. The 25-year-old was the second pick in the Rule 5 draft over the offseason.
MARCH 28, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Set as No. 2 catcher Hicks is expected to begin the season as the Marlins' backup catcher behind Nick Fortes, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact That's no real surprise, especially after top prospect Agustin Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Hicks, a Rule 5 pick from the Tigers' system, has shown some good plate discipline with a 5:5 BB:K in 11 Grapefruit League appearances this spring, but he's batting just .227 (5-for-22) with a double as his only extra-base hit. The Marlins remain in a seemingly never-ending rebuild, so Hicks will likely get as much playing time as he shows he can handle until Ramirez pushes his way onto the big-league roster.

Gets boost from Alcantara Hicks caught Sandy Alcantara on Sunday, and the Marlins' ace came away impressed by his game-calling and pitch framing, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Hicks was selected in the Rule 5 draft from Detroit, giving Miami every incentive to keep him on the 26-man roster, but Hicks is showing early in camp he can make an immediate contribution as well. The 25-year-old backstop went 1-for-2 at the plate Sunday, but it's his work behind the plate that will likely keep him in the majors. Hicks has yet to play above Double-A, and he slashed .264/.379/.357 over 113 games at that level in 2024 split between the Tigers' and Rangers' organizations. If he does secure a spot on the Marlins' roster, he'll back up Nick Fortes to begin the season.

Selected in Rule 5 draft The Marlins selected Hicks with the second pick in the Rule 5 draft Wednesday, JJ Cooper of Baseball America reports.
Impact The Rockies passed on selecting anyone with the second pick and the Marlins selected Hicks out of the third hole. Hicks was acquired by Detroit from the Rangers at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Carson Kelly to Texas. Hicks is nearly big-league ready, but projects to be a backup catcher long term. He'll be competing with Nick Fortes and prospect Agustin Ramirez for playing time behind the dish.
DECEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Traded to Detroit Hicks and right-handed pitcher Tyler Owens were traded to the Tigers in exchange for catcher Carson Kelly on Sunday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact Hicks has produced .260 average with four home runs, 33 RBI, 47 runs and a stolen base over 292 at-bats in 80 games with Double-A Frisco this season. The 25-year-old will likely report to Double-A Erie with the Tigers' organization and he'll look to impress in order to make the leap to Triple-A down the road.
