Tucker drives in 4 runs to lead Astros over Angels 9-6

Kyle Tucker three hits and a career-high four RBIs, and the Houston Astros started a 10-game road trip with a 9-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels

Drives in four in win Tucker went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 9-6 win over the Angels.

Impact Tucker sparked a four-run rally in the second inning with a two-RBI double, and he came around to score on Jose Altuve's fielder's choice. Tucker scored again on a George Srpinger sacrifice fly in the fourth. In the sixth, the 23-year-old Tucker ripped a two-run single to complete a big showing at the dish. The outfielder raised his batting average to .286, and he now has five RBI and six runs scored in six games. More performances like Friday's could get Tucker into a better spot in the lineup, at least when facing right-handed pitchers.

Leading off with Springer out Tucker is leading off and starting in left field Wednesday against the Dodgers, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Impact George Springer is sidelined with a sore knee and manager Dusty Baker turned to Tucker to fill in at the top of the lineup. He had not hit higher than eighth in his three previous starts this season. Tucker, who bats left-handed, has yet to start against a southpaw this season, so it remains to be seen if he is now an everyday player or simply a strong-side platoon guy.

Impact This was Tucker's third start at DH, all against right-handers. Once the Dodgers brought in a left-handed reliever, Houston manager Dusty Baker brought in Abraham Toro as a pinch hitter for Tucker.

Impact Tucker reached on a Kyle Seager error in the third inning and promptly stole second, his first swipe of the year, before scoring on a Jose Altuve double. Tucker would draw a walk in the fourth and score again on a Dustin Garneau triple. The 23-year-old Tucker will likely see the short end of a timeshare with Michael Brantley in left field and can also serve as the designated hitter at times.

With Aledmys Diaz (groin) joining Yordan Alvarez (undisclosed) on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Tucker should get the bulk of starts at DH in the short term. He's hit both lefties and righties well in the minors, so Tucker should not be an automatic sit against southpaws.

He was reportedly unable to do any baseball activities while away from the team, so he needs to undergo a full preseason buildup process before appearing in a game. In theory, serving as a designated hitter could shorten that process somewhat, but it nevertheless sounds as though it will be a matter of weeks, not days, until Alvarez is back on the field. Aledmys Diaz will serve as the designated hitter in his absence on Opening Day, though Kyle Tucker could also spend time in the role against righties.
