Impact Given the righty's fairly brief absence, it's possible the simulated game may deem a rehab assignment unnecessary, in which case Finnegan would be no more than a couple days from returning. There's been no indication from the Nationals, however, of whether he'll head to Triple-A Rochester for some additional work.

Impact Manager Dave Martinez said Tuesday that Finnegan is "getting really close" to a return from the injured list. While the right-hander could require a rehab assignment before he returns to the major-league bullpen, he'll throw at least one more bullpen before the team determines the next step in his recovery process.

Before activating him from the IL, the Nationals will likely want Finnegan to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, which he could do this weekend.

Heads to IL with hamstring strain Finnegan was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

Impact Finnegan last pitched Sunday, striking out one in a perfect inning. It's not clear when or how he strained his hamstring but the issue is serious enough to require an IL stint. The right-hander will be eligible to be activated July 1, though his hamstring could very well require a longer period to heal. Max Scherzer (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his Tuesday start in a corresponding roster move.
