Kendry Rojas - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Returns from MiLB IL Rojas (oblique) was activated from the 7-day injured list Sunday.

Impact Rojas landed on the injured list Aug. 22 after picking up a right oblique strain. He didn't show any signs of rust in his return to action Sunday, tossing two scoreless frames while walking one and striking out one against Triple-A Syracuse.

Tending to oblique injury Triple-A St. Paul placed Rojas on its 7-day injured list Aug. 22 due to a right oblique strain, Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com reports.

Impact While the 23-year-old lefty profiled as a potential candidate to join the Twins when the active roster expands to 28 men Tuesday, the oblique injury may take a potential promotion off the table for a bit. Before being optioned back to Triple-A earlier in August, Rojas compiled a 3.34 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 34:22 K:BB in 29.2 innings over 12 appearances (four starts) for Minnesota.

Back in bullpen Wednesday Rojas struck out four and scattered four hits and two walks over three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Royals.

Impact Rojas tossed four scoreless frames in a start against the Athletics in his last appearance over the weekend, but he shifted back to a relief role this week after Connor Prielipp (finger) returned from the injured list to fill the open spot in the rotation. The 23-year-old lefty mopped up after starter Joe Ryan covered the first six innings and trimmed his ERA down to 2.51 for the season. Ryan is expected to be a sought-after commodity ahead of Monday's trade deadline, and if he ends up getting moved, Rojas could be first in line to join the Minnesota rotation.

Excellent in short spot start Rojas pitched four scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out five batters.

Impact Rojas made his fourth start of the season as an emergency replacement for Mike Paredes, who was a late scratch due to an oblique injury. Though there was no expectation that Rojas would go very deep after having thrown fewer than 50 pitches in each of his three outings since being recalled from Triple-A on July 9, the left-hander ended up hurling 56 pitches Saturday and lasted four frames, tying his longest big-league start of the campaign. Rojas didn't go long enough to qualify for the victory, but he certainly played a big part in Minnesota's win, limiting the A's to just two baserunners (on a single and a walk) and zero runs. Rojas has plenty of experience as a starter in the minors, and he's a candidate to move into the rotation if Paredes and/or Joe Ryan (arm) needs to miss time.

Drawing start Tuesday Rojas will start Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Impact Rojas most recently worked one inning Saturday against the Cubs, so he figures to work the first inning or so before giving way to a bulk reliever. The Twins cleared a spot on the big-league roster after Monday's game by optioning Woo-suk Go to Triple-A Rochester, meaning the club will likely call up a fresh arm to work in relief of Rojas.

Back with big club The Twins recalled Rojas from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday.

Impact The 23-year-old rejoins the big club after he was dispatched to St. Paul late last month. Rojas has appeared in six games for the Twins this season, making a pair of starts, and has produced a 1.65 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB across 16.1 innings. Rojas hasn't thrown since July 3 and could be an option to start Friday if Zebby Matthews (foot) is unable to make his scheduled start.

Bound for Triple-A The Twins optioned Rojas to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Impact Minnesota moved Rojas to the minors and designated right-hander Austin Voth for assignment after the two pitchers covered the first six innings of Tuesday's 12-3 loss to the Dodgers. Prior to making the two-inning start for Minnesota, Rojas hadn't pitched for the big club since late May after he had been shelved due to triceps inflammation. The Twins will likely have the young lefty get further stretched out as a member of the rotation at Triple-A.

Uneven in short spot start Rojas allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out four batters over two innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Impact Rojas got a chance to start Tuesday after Joe Ryan was scratched due to an illness. Rojas had thrown just 33 pitches in his lone rehab appearance after being activated off the IL on Sunday following a triceps injury, so he wasn't expected to go very deep, and that indeed proved to be the case. With that said, the lefty probably could have covered more innings if not for his lack of control -- he needed 50 pitches to cover two frames, with only 25 of his offerings going for strikes. On the plus side, Rojas struck out four and managed to work around his wildness to allow just one run. Ultimately, it was Austin Voth who took on a starter's workload in his first appearance as a Twin, eating up four innings with 96 pitches. Neither Rojas nor Voth figures to enter the rotation since Ryan has been cleared to return Wednesday.
