Diamondbacks Sign Former First-Round Pick to MiLB Deal D-backs add more relief depth in a former division rival
Randal Grichuk - Scratched Saturday Grichuk was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's Cactus League game against the Rockies due to glute soreness, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact The team isn't too concerned about Grichuk's injury, so there's a good chance he gets back to game action within a few days. In the meantime, A.J. Vukovich will pick up a start in left field Saturday.

Ryne Nelson - Logs two innings Friday Nelson allowed one hit and two walks while striking out one over two scoreless innings in Friday's spring game against Kansas City.
Impact Nelson, making his Cactus League debut, followed game starter Merrill Kelly, and pitched the third and fourth innings. Nelson was a mainstay in the rotation the last two seasons -- and showed improvement in 2024 -- but he enters the spring having to battle for a rotation spot for a third consecutive season. His scoreless outing follows a similar one Thursday from Brandon Pfaadt, who is also competing for the same rotation spot along with Jordan Montgomery.

Merrill Kelly - Makes spring debut Kelly allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over two innings in Friday's spring start against the Royals.
Impact This is the first time seeing Kelly in Cactus League action, and the 36-year-old right-hander showed extra juice on his fastball. He averaged 92 mph on his two- and four-seamers in 2024 but threw a number of fastballs of 94-plus. The uptick is velo is an encouraging sign for Kelly, who missed a large part of 2024 due to a shoulder injury. After pitching out of a first-inning ham, Kelly retired the side in order in his second frame.
