Nate Webb - Booted from 40-man Webb was designated for assignment by the Royals on Tuesday.
Impact The 25-year-old righty gave up 34 runs in 28.2 innings across Double-A and Triple-A last season, so it's no surprise to see him fall off the 40-man roster. He walked 24 batters over that span, which was his main undoing.

Alec Marsh - Contract selected Marsh's contract was selected by the Royals on Tuesday.
Impact The move means Marsh won't be available for selection in the Rule 5 draft. Marsh spent the bulk of last season with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he struggled to a 7.32 ERA in 25 starts despite a 27.4 percent strikeout rate.

Diego Hernandez - Added to 40-man roster The Royals added Hernandez to the 40-man roster Tuesday.
Impact This move protects the lefty-hitting outfielder from the Rule 5 draft. Hernandez turns 22 this weekend and only played 32 games at Double-A last year, so he is unlikely to make the big-league club this spring. He hit .298/.357/.379 with two home runs and 13 steals in 141 plate appearances at Double-A.

Freddy Fermin - Added to 40-man roster The Royals selected Fermin's contract Tuesday.
Impact He made his big-league debut this past season, but only played in three games. The 27-year-old catcher will serve as Kansas City's third catcher on the depth chart. He hit .270/.365/.480 with 15 home runs in 87 games at Triple-A.

Ryan O'Hearn - Avoids arbitration with Royals O'Hearn agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Royals on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.
Impact O'Hearn, 29, has been a below replacement level player in the majors in each of the last four seasons, so it's a little surprising that he's sticking around on a big-league pact. Last year he saw time at first base, designated hitter and right field. O'Hearn is a career .219/.293/.390 hitter in 342 games and has been worth -1.4 fWAR over that time.

Samad Taylor - Kansas City selects contract Taylor had his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha by the Royals on Thursday.
Impact The 24-year-old was acquired at the trade deadline from Toronto as part of the return for Whit Merrifield. Taylor played in 70 games at Triple-A last season and had a .258/.337/.426 slash line with nine home runs, 45 RBI and 23 steals.

Impact Lovelady sat out most of 2022 while he rehabbed from Tommy John surgery, but he returned to game action in September with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Omaha. The left-hander had a 3.48 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB across 20.2 innings prior to the injury in 2021 and could be a bullpen piece for Kansas City to open next season.
