Kade Morris - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Relegated to Triple-A The Athletics optioned Morris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Impact Morris will be jettisoned off the big-league roster after giving up five earned runs in just 2.2 innings during his start Friday against Seattle. Seth Johnson will come up from Triple-A to add depth to the Athletics' bullpen while the team sorts out its rotation plans.

Another ugly start Morris allowed five runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out none over 2.2 innings in a no-decision Friday versus the Mariners.

Impact After a decent first inning, Morris gave up five runs over the next two frames before Brady Basso was brought in to clean up the mess. In his two starts this season, Morris has given up a total of 14 runs over 6.2 innings, though he hasn't been all that effective in a multi-inning relief role either. The Athletics are well out of the playoff race, so Morris may still get a few more opportunities down the stretch, but with a 10.90 ERA across 17.1 innings, he's unlikely to do much to help in fantasy.

Chosen to start Friday's contest The Athletics list Morris as their starting pitcher for Friday's contest in Seattle.

Impact It will be the second career start in the big leagues for Morris, who was bludgeoned for nine runs over four-plus innings versus the Astros in his major-league debut in June. All four of his appearances since then have been in relief, with the last one coming Saturday when he yielded one run while throwing 35 pitches in two innings against the Orioles. Morris is not stretched out to handle a full workload, so the Athletics will need several innings from their bullpen Friday.

Back with big club The Athletics recalled Morris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Impact The 24-year-old made his big-league debut earlier this season, appearing in three games, and was hammered for 13 runs on 19 hits and six walks with six strikeouts across 10 innings. He was used exclusively as a start with Las Vegas but figures to rejoin the bullpen with the Athletics.

Back down to Triple-A The Athletics optioned Morris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Impact Morris has appeared in two games out of the Athletics' bullpen since being called up from the minors June 29, allowing four runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out two across six innings. He'll head back down to Triple-A, where he has a 7-4 record across 14 starts with a 4.41 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 60:29 K:BB over 79.2 innings.

Sent back to Vegas The Athletics optioned Morris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Impact Morris gave up nine earned runs in just four innings during his MLB debut Saturday, and he'll now be sent back down to the minors in favor of Joey Estes. Morris owns a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 60.2 innings at Las Vegas and could rejoin the A's at some point later this summer if he gets back on track with the Aviators.

Hit hard in MLB debut Morris (0-1) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing nine runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out four batters over four-plus innings.

Impact Morris was called upon to start following injuries to Aaron Civale (shoulder) and Luis Severino (shoulder), but he didn't make a strong case for sticking in the rotation. The right-hander gave up six runs over his first two innings, with the biggest blow being a grand slam off the bat of Yordan Alvarez. That was one of three homers allowed overall by Morris, who needed 90 pitches to retire 12 batters. Neither Civale nor Severino is slated to return soon, but given Morris' performance Saturday, the Athletics -- who currently sit 3.5 games behind Seattle in the AL West -- may opt to turn to a different pitcher to fill the rotation slot.

Making MLB debut Athletics manager Mark Kotsay confirmed that Morris will start Saturday's game in Houston, Chris Correa of the Turlock Journal reports.

Impact The Athletics called up Morris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, and after he wasn't needed in relief in any of the ensuing four games, he'll make his MLB debut Saturday as the club's new fifth starter. Prior to receiving his promotion, Morris compiled a 4.45 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 49:26 K:BB over 60.2 innings with Las Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Since neither Luis Severino (shoulder) nor Aaron Civale (shoulder) appear especially close to returning from the injured list, Morris would have a path to making multiple turns through the big-league rotation. If Morris performs poorly in Saturday's contest, however, the Athletics could swap him out of the rotation for Mason Barnett, who is stretched out enough to handle a starting role after tossing four shutout innings in long relief during Friday's 5-1 loss to the Astros.

Expected to be called up Monday Morris is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.

Impact Morris will join the major-league roster for the first time in his professional career. The 23-year-old has posted a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 60.2 innings in 11 starts with Las Vegas, and he may get a chance to start with the big-league club. Jacob Lopez is expected to be sent down to Triple-A on Monday to create a spot on the major-league roster, but the A's will also need to make another move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Morris.
