Stays warm Sunday Yepez went 2-for-3 with a walk, one stolen base, one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers.

Impact Yepez has hit safely in all 10 of his major-league games this season, and this was his third straight multi-hit effort. He's also shown modest power with six doubles, though he's yet to hit a home run. The 26-year-old has added three RBI and six runs scored over 43 plate appearances, and his steal Sunday was the first of his major-league career. Until Joey Gallo (hamstring returns) Yepez is likely to maintain a firm grip on a starting job at first base.

Impact Since taking over the starting job at first base for the Nationals, Yepez has hit safely in seven straight games, batting .308 (8-for-26) with four doubles, two RBI and 4:5 BB:K. Joey Gallo (hamstring) likely won't be ready to come off the IL immediately after the All-Star break, but if Yepez keeps producing, he may not give the job back whenever the veteran slugger does get activated -- Gallo's .606 OPS through 165 plate appearances this season is a career low.

Impact Yepez got in on the homer party despite not starting the contest -- he entered as a pinch hitter for Tommy Edman (abdomen) in the third inning and promptly hit a solo shot. There hasn't been much playing time for Yepez since he was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on May 5, but the Cardinals' outfield is starting to feel the impact of injuries. The 25-year-old currently projects to operate as the semi-regular DH in St. Louis this season after registering a .742 OPS with 12 home runs over his first 76 major-league games in 2022.
