Juan Morillo - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Earns win with scoreless relief outing Morillo (5-4) earned the win after walking one and striking out one over 1.1 hitless innings in Saturday's 5-3 victory over the Yankees.

Impact Morillo entered with two outs in the eighth and kept the game tied at 3-3 through the top of the ninth before Pavin Smith's two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the frame gave the Diamondbacks a much-needed win. Morillo has pitched well since the All-Star break, giving up just three earned runs across 24.1 innings in 25 outings, for an elite 1.11 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with a 26:9 K:BB over that stretch.

Notches third save Morillo earned the save in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Phillies, walking one and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Impact Morillo was tasked with facing the top of the Phillies' order in the ninth inning, after Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the eighth. He promptly struck out Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner, earning his third save of the season. Morillo has been stellar of late, delivering 17 straight scoreless innings to stake his claim as the Diamondbacks' primary closer. His ERA now sits at 2.11 across 55.1 innings this year with a 1.05 WHIP and 64:21 K:BB.

Secures second save Morillo worked a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Cubs. He didn't strike out a batter.

Impact Kevin Ginkel had pitched the prior two days and Brandyn Garcia handled the eighth inning, so Morillo was summoned in the ninth and got the job done on an efficient eight pitches (seven strikes). The closer situation for Arizona remains murky, with all three of those pitchers having now recorded saves in August and Justin Martinez also likely to work into the mix after making his 2026 debut last week. Morillo's making a strong case for regular high-leverage work, however -- his other save this season came back in April, but he hasn't been tagged for a run since July 17, reeling off 14 straight scoreless appearances with a 0.79 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 14 innings while picking up one win and seven holds.

Gives up lead again Morillo allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.

Impact Morillo, who's been a late-game staple for manager Torey Lovullo, gave up an eighth-inning lead for the second consecutive day against Colorado. He had a 1.83 ERA prior to blowing those leads and had become a reliable late-inning arm for Lovullo, who had recently dialed back on the reliever's usage. Morillo appeared in 15 of the team's first 29 games before being deployed just six times in the subsequent 19 contests prior to Thursday.

Notches first save in 10th inning Morillo struck out one in a perfect 10th inning Wednesday to record his first save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Orioles.

Impact Paul Sewald had pitched the night before and Kevin Ginkel and Ryan Thompson threw three innings between them to help get Wednesday's afternoon contest to extra innings, so Morillo was the next man up for a save chance when Arizona scored three runs in the top of the 10th. The 27-year-old right-hander breezed through the middle of Baltimore's order on just 10 pitches (seven strikes) to get the job done. Morillo's high-90s fastball and slider-changeup combo seem tailor made for high-leverage work, and he's rising up the pecking order in the Diamondbacks bullpen on the strength of a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB through nine innings.

Suffers loss Saturday Morillo (0-1) was tagged with the loss when he allowed two runs on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Impact Morillo got the first two outs in the eighth inning before walking Mookie Betts, which set the stage for Will Smith's two-run home run. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo tabbed Morillo as an option among the Diamondbacks' all right-handed bullpen to deploy against lefty batters, and he successfully navigated Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Tucker before giving up the runs. This was the second consecutive game in which Arizona's bullpen took the loss in the late innings.
