INJURIES

Healthy after hamstring surgery Brito (hamstring) played five innings at second base and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout Friday in the Guardians' 4-2 win over the Reds in Cactus League play.
Impact Brito is back to full health this spring after his 2025 season came to an early end when he underwent surgery on his left hamstring Sept. 12. The 24-year-old is expected to get exposure to three infield spots as well as right field in spring training as he aims to secure a spot on the Guardians' Opening Day roster as a utility man.
20 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Getting chance in utility role Brito (hamstring) is expected to see opportunities at first base, second base, third base and in right field during spring training, Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland reports.
Impact Brito underwent hamstring surgery at the end of last season, so it's unclear whether he's entering camp at full strength. However, once he's cleared to play, he's expected to get chances in a variety of different roles, and it sounds as though he'll have a legitimate chance to win an Opening Day roster spot. Brito spent 24 games at Triple-A Columbus a season ago, slashing .256/.357/.463 with three home runs, 15 RBI, four stolen bases and 15 runs scored.

Undergoes hamstring surgery Brito will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair his left hamstring, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Impact Brito came into spring training with a chance to win the Guardians' second-base job, but he spent all season in the minors and was limited to only 24 games at Triple-A Columbus due to thumb and now hamstring surgeries. The 23-year-old should report to spring training without any restrictions.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Executing baseball activities Brito (hamstring) is running, fielding and hitting following a significant left hamstring strain sustained in early July, MLB.com reports.
Impact It's been six weeks since Brito landed on the injured list, and the estimated recovery time for strains like his is between eight and 12 weeks. That gives him a chance to return to action at some point in September. The hamstring and an earlier thumb injury put a damper on an important year of development for Brito, who has played 24 games at Triple-A Columbus and another seven in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
AUGUST 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Set for extended absence Guardians team president Chris Antonetti said July 20 that Brito is expected to be out for "weeks" due to a "significant" left hamstring strain, MLB.com reports.
Impact Brito sustained the injury while running to first base in a July 4 game with Triple-A Columbus and was placed on the affiliate's injured list a few days later. Based on Antonetti's comments, Brito appears unlikely to make his return from the IL until late August or early September.
JULY 28, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Back on Triple-A IL Brito was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday with a left hamstring strain.
Impact Brito just returned from right thumb surgery less than two weeks ago and now he will be sidelined with a new injury. It's not clear at this point how much time he might miss. Brito has slashed .256/.357/.463 with three homers in 24 games with Columbus this season.
JULY 8, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Back from Triple-A IL Brito (thumb) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Impact Brito needed surgery in late April to repair a high-grade ligament sprain in his right thumb, but he's ready to go after playing seven rehab games at the Guardians' Arizona Complex League affiliate. The 23-year-old infielder slashed .291/.406/.491 with two homers and four steals in 16 games before getting hurt. Brito could eventually become an option for Cleveland at second base if he plays well at Columbus.
JUNE 25, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Nearing rehab assignment Brito (thumb) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Guardians later this week, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Impact Brito landed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb in late April. He will eventually rejoin Columbus' roster after knocking some rust off in the ACL.

Optioned to Triple-A The Guardians optioned Brito to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Impact The 23-year-old posted a .177/.222/.529 slash line with four homers over 13 games in spring training and was unable to earn a place on the Opening Day roster. Brito still has a strong chance to make his MLB debut at some point in 2025, especially if he can replicate or improve upon the .808 OPS he produced at Triple-A last year.

Homer again Brito started at second base went 2-for-4 with with a solo home run in Tuesday's spring game against the Rangers.
Impact Four of Brito's six Cactus League hits have left the park, giving him a lopsided spring line of .176/.222/.529 through 13 games. He's one of a host of competitors for the open job at second base. Brito's defense and speed are mediocre, and his 20-homer potential needs to be enough to overlook those shortcomings.

Impact Both of Brito's hits have been home runs, but he's also struck out at a 30.4 percent clip this spring. The 23-year-old is on the 40-man roster but has not yet made his major-league debut, and a trip back to Triple-A Columbus could be in order, at least to start the season.

Starts Sunday Brito started at second base and went 0-for-2 in Sunday's spring game against the Angels.
Impact Brito made his Cactus League debut Sunday. The 23-year-old is one of several players that should see time at second base, a position that remains up for grabs. Gabriel Arias started Saturday's spring opener followed by Brito on Sunday. Expect to see a carousel of names in daily box scores, including prospect Travis Bazzana.
FEBRUARY 24, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
In running for second base job The Guardians "continue to express their extreme excitement" at getting a look at Brito at second base this spring, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Impact Joe Noga of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported in January that Brito might be a long shot to win the second base job. However, Bell has listed Brito as the starter at the keystone in her first Opening Day roster projection, though she acknowledges the answer "back and forth between Brito and Gabriel Arias all spring." The 23-year-old Brito slashed .256/.365/.443 with 21 homers and 13 steals in 2024 at Triple-A Columbus and offers the most offensive upside out out Cleveland's second-base candidates. Tyler Freeman, Daniel Schneemann and Angel Martinez are also in the mix to replaced Andres Gimenez, who was traded to the Blue Jays.
