Called up from minors The Twins recalled Moran from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.

Impact Minnesota will add the right-hander to the bullpen as a replacement for Joe Smith, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with upper trapezius tightness. Though Smith has been one of the Twins' top setup men this season, Moran is likely to be deployed in lower-leverage spots while he's up with the big club.

Sent to St. Paul The Twins optioned Moran to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Impact The transaction clears room on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Sonny Gray (pectoral), who was activated from the 15-day injured list in advance of his scheduled start Wednesday in Seattle. During his two-and-a-half-week-long stay with the big club, Moran made five appearances in relief and collected one save while striking out 10 in 7.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits and seven walks.

Impact Moran entered the game to preserve a two-run lead after Tyler Duffey coughed up a three-run homer in the ninth. Joins active roster Moran was recalled by the Twins on Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Impact Moran made his MLB debut last season, struggling to a 7.88 ERA in eight innings of relief work while walking 18.4 percent of the batters he faced. His 16.7 percent walk rate through 7.1 Triple-A innings this year isn't much better, but it's led to a 3.68 ERA when paired with his 38.9 percent strikeout rate. He'll need to find the zone more often if he's to fill anything but a low-leverage role, however.
