Impact Soriano, who is working back the Tommy John procedure he underwent in February 2020, will be evaluated in Pittsburgh in the coming days before the Pirates decide on his next course of treatment. At the very least, Soriano will likely be shut down for at least a couple of weeks, which could be enough to delay his return from the 60-day injured list until after the All-Star break.

Impact The Pirates grabbed Soriano in the Rule 5 draft despite the fact that he was still working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's still on the 60-day injured list and may need a lengthy rehab assignment before he's ready to make his big-league debut, but the Pirates will have to keep him on the active roster once that's done or offer him back to the Angels.

Impact Soriano opened the season on the 60-day injured list while he works through the latter portion of his rehab program from February 2020 Tommy John surgery. He's been able to throw side sessions in recent weeks without any new discomfort, so the Pirates plan to have him face hitters in the near future. After being selected by the Pirates in December's Rule 5 draft, Soriano must spent at least 90 days on the active roster in 2021, or else the Pirates will have to return him to the Angels.

Impact Soriano was selected by the Pirates with the first pick of the Rule 5 draft in December, but he'll begin the season on the injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February 2020. The move will clear a spot on the 40-man roster for southpaw Tyler Anderson. Prior to his surgery, Soriano recorded a 2.55 ERA and 84:48 K:BB over 77.2 innings at the Low-A level.

That may have been part of the appeal, as Soriano won't necessarily take up an active roster spot early in the season, which gives the Pirates more roster flexibility. Before going under the knife, Soriano logged a 2.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 77.2 innings at Low-A. He has a solid fastball/curveball combo that could play up out of the bullpen, but Soriano lacks the polish and upper-level experience to have success in the majors in 2021.
