Dispatched to minors
The Diamondbacks optioned Fernandez to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Impact
Fernandez's first stint in the majors resulted in a .255/.289/.352 batting line with three home runs, seven stolen bases and a 7:40 BB:K over 55 games. He's being sent out in favor of LuJames Groover.

Fills in at hot corner
Fernandez started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Seattle.
Impact
Fernandez was a late addition to the starting lineup after Nolan Arenado (groin) was scratched. Arenado has battled the groin since getting hit by a pitch in that area Tuesday, which has opened up playing time for Fernandez. The rookie has gone 3-for-12 with two doubles and an RBI as a fill-in at third base.

Logs two doubles
Fernandez went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI in Friday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.
Impact
Fernandez entered Friday just 1-for-17 over his last six games. The infielder was able to break out with a big game, and after Nolan Arenado (arm/groin) was plunked in the ninth inning, there's the possibility Fernandez may be needed to fill in at third base for a while longer. Fernandez is hitting .268 with a .677 OPS, three home runs, 15 RBI, 23 runs scored and six stolen bases across 49 contests this season.

Fills in at third base
Fernandez entered Tuesday's game in the seventh inning after Nolan Arenado was removed due to a groin injury. Fernandez was hitless in his lone at-bat in a 7-5 win over the Giants.
Impact
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo downplayed the injury to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports and indicated there were no plans to have Arenado undergo imaging. He's considered day-to-day, and Fernandez is likely to fill-in at third base if needed.

Snags fifth steal
Fernandez went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base in Sunday's 8-6 win over the Rockies.
Impact
Fernandez started all three games of this weekend series against the Rockies, going 4-for-12 with two RBI and two steals. Two of those starts came against right-handed pitchers, though Ketel Marte serving as designated hitter Saturday before resting Sunday likely factored into Fernandez's usage in the field. Through 127 plate appearances this year, Fernandez is hitting .275 with a .693 OPS, three home runs, five steals, 14 RBI and 20 runs scored. He'll play regularly against left-handed pitchers, but it doesn't look like he'll be strictly platooned when his hitting is good.

Losing starts to Del Castillo
Fernandez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Impact
Fernandez will be on the bench for the second day in a row, with both of his absences coming against right-handed pitchers. Though Fernandez maintains a .775 OPS on the season compared to Adrian Del Castillo's .657 mark, the latter's standing as a left-handed batter could afford him most of the playing time at designated hitter. Arizona had previously had regular at-bats against right-handed pitching available for both players between DH and catcher, but Gabriel Moreno's recent return from the injured list will limit Del Castillo's opportunities to pick up starts behind the dish moving forward.

Taking seat Tuesday
Fernandez isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact
Fernandez will get a breather after going 1-for-9 with a walk and a run scored during Arizona's latest series against the Cubs. His absence will allow Adrian Del Castillo to work as the designated hitter while batting fourth.

Not in Arizona lineup
Fernandez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Milwaukee.
Impact
Fernandez had started the last four contests and 17 of the past 18 tilts, but he'll begin Thursday's festivities on the bench. Adrian Del Castillo will occupy the designated hitter slot in Thursday's rubber match.

Deposits third homer
Fernandez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Sunday's win over San Diego.
Impact
Fernandez was a pest at the plate, putting Arizona on the board with a solo homer in the sixth inning before the offense awoke and rallied for a come-from-behind victory. It marked his second three-hit performance and eighth multi-hit effort of 2026. The rookie has been a pleasant surprise when called upon, slashing .342/.359/.500 with three homers, 12 RBI, 17 runs and a stolen base in 22 games. With Geraldo Perdomo sitting Sunday, Fernandez started at shortstop, though he has seen action across the infield and his versatility should help him continue to earn playing time.

On base four times
Fernandez went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Wednesday's 11-7 win over the White Sox.
Impact
Fernandez's contributions were lost among the more showy exploits of his teammates, but the utility infielder has flirted with a .300 average in his rookie season. He extended a hit streak to seven games (9-for-27) Wednesday and is slashing .313/.333/.433 with four extra-base hits and nine RBI over 19 games. A relatively unheralded prospect entering spring training, Fernandez put a show in the Cactus League (three HR, 1.148 OPS) and it hasn't stopped in the majors, where he homered twice in his MLB debut. The 22-year-old shares first base with Ildemaro Vargas while also getting at-bats at DH.
