Optioned to Triple-A Fermin was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact Fermin has managed just four hits in 25 at-bats for the Cardinals this season and had started just one of the last five games. With Nolan Gorman back from the injured list, Fermin's playing time was about to be cut even more. Instead, he'll head back to Memphis to play regularly.

Recalled from Triple-A The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Impact The Cardinals had plenty of holes to fill after unloading their roster prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, and Fermin will come up from Memphis to provide depth in St. Louis' infield. The 24-year-old is slashing .200/.347/.450 through 49 plate appearances in Triple-A.

Impact With Tommy Edman (wrist) landing on the injured list Friday, Fermin will be called upon to provide depth to the Cards' infield. The 24-year-old hasn't been remarkable in Triple-A, slashing .167/.310/.333, although he's been on the injured list for most of the season due to a quad injury. Fermin isn't likely to get many starts while in the majors, but he could come off the bench to pinch hit occasionally.

Impact Fermin has missed most of the minor-league season with a quad injury and is just 4-for-24 at the plate since joining Triple-A Memphis. With Tommy Edman (wrist) and Brendan Donovan (arm) banged up, Fermin will provide the Cards with some infield protection. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Activated off minor-league IL Fermin (quad) was activated from the injured list Monday at Triple-A Memphis.

Impact Fermin missed the first couple months of the 2023 season due to a severe quad strain, but he's all set now to become a regular for Memphis following a 10-game rehab stint between the Florida Complex League and Low-A Palm Beach. St. Louis acquired the 24-year-old infielder from Cleveland over the winter in exchange for cash considerations. He slashed .215/.336/.322 with six homers and nine steals in 90 games last year at Triple-A Columbus.
