Recalled to majors The Rangers recalled Corniell from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Impact Corniell will join the big-league squad for the first time in his career Friday to help replenish the Rangers' bullpen depth following the placement of Chris Martin (undisclosed) and Cole Winn (undisclosed) on the IL. Corniell has split time between Double-A and Triple-A this season, posting a 1.67 ERA and 0.71 WHIP across 32.1 innings between the two levels.

Debuts for Double-A club Corniell (elbow) struck out a batter over two perfect innings Saturday for Double-A Frisco after being reinstated from its 60-day injured list.

Impact After being optioned to the minors early in spring training, Corniell had spent all season on Frisco's IL while recovering from UCL surgery, which he underwent last June. He was given the green light to join Frisco after completing four rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League earlier this month, but Corniell had his workload monitored carefully in his debut for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate.

Impact Corniell is 10 months removed from a right UCL repair. The 21-year-old is on the Rangers' 40-man roster but has yet to advance past A-ball, so he's not a real candidate to see action in the majors this season. He could, however, be a candidate for the 60-day injured list if the Rangers need to free up a 40-man roster spot.

Impact This is an ominous injury designation for the 20-year-old righty. Corniell has outstanding control for his age (7.3 BB% in 58.1 innings at High-A) and a quality four-pitch mix headlined by a 94-mph fastball and plus 84-mph sweeper. The fact he was assigned to Double-A before turning 21 illustrates how advanced Corniell is, but this elbow injury could be his first big setback.
