Batting eighth in return Walker is starting in right field and batting eighth for the Cardinals on Friday in Pittsburgh, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Impact Walker was recalled earlier Friday following a five-plus week stay at Triple-A Memphis. The youngster struggled on the whole at Memphis but did bat .333 with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 11 games. He should be the team's regular right fielder indefinitely and will be looking to cash in on his immense fantasy potential.

Officially called up Walker was called up from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Impact Walker will join the Cardinals in Pittsburgh ahead of their three-game series with the Pirates starting Friday. The outfielder will replace Lars Nootbaar (back) on the major-league roster after Nootbaar was placed on the 10-day injured list. Walker is the consensus top prospect in baseball and produced a .274 average with two homers, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases over 73 at-bats with the Cardinals earlier this season before being sent down April 26. He actually struggled to a .239 average with 32 strikeouts over 113 at-bats with Memphis, though he is batting .333 with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 11 games. In the end, Walker will look to prove that he deserves a permanent spot in St. Louis in his second run with the big-league squad.

Returning to St. Louis The Cardinals will recall Walker from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact Walker started his big-league career with a 12-game hitting streak, but he was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis in late April after he began to struggle both at the plate and defensively. He's been able to turn it around on offense lately, slashing .292/.386/.542 in the minors over the past two weeks, and his promotion indicates the Cardinals are satisfied with his glove as well. Lars Nootbaar's strong play as of late could force Walker to split reps in the outfield, but the top prospect still figures to see his fair share of plate appearances.

Heating up at Triple-A Walker is slashing .342/.447/.579 with two home runs, one steal and a 25.5 percent strikeout rate over his last 10 games for Triple-A Memphis.

Impact On the year, he has been nine percent worse (91 wRC+) than the average International League hitter while working exclusively in right field since getting demoted from the big leagues April 26. The Cardinals are getting strong play on both sides of the ball from Lars Nootbaar, but none of the other big-league outfielders have taken a job and run with it. With Walker heating up at Triple-A, he has put himself in position for a promotion if the Cardinals think his defense will be satisfactory.

Optioned to Memphis The Cardinals optioned Walker to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact Walker began his MLB career with a 12-game hitting streak, but he was slashing just .192/.250/.231 over his last 28 plate appearances and had been absent from the Cardinals' lineup for the first two games of their three-game series in San Francisco. Still, this demotion arrives as rather shocking news given his top-prospect pedigree and respectable .718 overall OPS. Taylor Motter is up from Memphis in a corresponding move.

Working on swing Walker has been out of the Cardinals' lineup the last two games in order to work on his swing, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact Specifically, the Cards are working with Walker on getting the ball in the air. The 20-year-old has a hard-hit rate in the 78th percentile and max exit velocity in the 96th percentile, but his groundball rate is over 60 percent. "This is a guy who hits the ball at the top of the league, so if he learns how to get it off the ground there are a lot of extra-base hits and homers awaiting him," manager Oli Marmol said. The Cardinals have a boatload of outfield options right now, but it does not sound like Walker is in danger of a demotion at this point. It's unclear whether he will be back in the lineup Wednesday.

Impact Walker didn't play in Monday's series opener, but this is a different situation Tuesday with the Giants trying a bullpen game.
