Impact Francisco Lindor is resting Wednesday after he made his return from the injured list in Tuesday's 8-0 loss, so the Mets will have an opening in the infield for Villar, who saw his streak of 18 consecutive starts come to an end a day ago. Villar's ability to play three infield spots might be enough for him to pick up a handful of starts per week, but both he and J.D. Davis will have their playing time squeezed now that Lindor and Javier Baez are healthy. The Mets are expected to roll out an infield of Pete Alonso, Baez, Lindor and Jeff McNeil against right-handed pitching more often than not.

Impact After spending the past three games on the bench, Villar will check into the lineup at the hot corner as a replacement for the resting J.D. Davis. Manager Luis Rojas doesn't appear to have settled on an everyday option at third base, so expect Villar and Davis to divide the work between the two relatively evenly with the hope that one separates himself from the other.

Looks like Lindor's replacement Villar will start at shortstop and bat seventh Wednesday against Atlanta, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Impact Jeff McNeil's recent return from a four-game absence leaves Francisco Lindor (oblique) as the only Mets regular on the shelf, and Villar appears to have won out over Luis Guillorme for the right to replace the four-time All-Star. While Guillorme's superior glove should still earn him at least a couple of starts per week, Villar will handle shortstop duties for the fifth time in six games. Villar has gotten off to a slow start at the plate to begin the second half, posting a .581 OPS while striking out in 27.5 percent of his plate appearances since the All-Star break.
