Cast off 40-man roster The White Sox outrighted Stiever to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
Impact Though Chicago didn't previously announce that Stiever was designated for assignment, he was apparently moved off the 40-man roster and will now stick around in the organization upon clearing waivers. Once one of the White Sox's more promising starting pitching prospects, Stiever has covered just 85.1 innings between the majors and Triple-A since the start of the 2020 season while missing considerable time due to a lat injury.

Tabbed to start Tuesday Stiever (lat) is listed as the White Sox's probable starter for Tuesday's spring game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Stiever made only three rehab appearances last season and spent most of the campaign rehabbing from the right lat surgery he underwent in August of 2021. The 25-year-old is now apparently fully healthy and has an outside shot at Chicago's Opening Day rotation, though he's more likely to begin the year in the minors while coming off a lost season.

Beginning rehab assignment Stiever (lat) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
Impact Stiever has resided on the White Sox's 60-day injured list all season while recovering from the surgery he required last August to address a right lat injury. Even if he had been healthy for spring training, Stiever likely would have been on the outside looking in for a rotation spot with the White Sox, so he shouldn't be viewed as a candidate to join the big club whenever he's formally activated. The White Sox will likely just want to see Stiever make an appearance or two for Charlotte to feel more confident about his health heading into the offseason, when the organization will have to decide whether to tender him a contract for 2023.
