Impact Heim had been removed from Sunday's game after taking a foul ball to the neck area. Manager Chris Woodward said the catcher was fine and available to play.

Impact Heim was hit under the mask while blocking a ball in the dirt Sunday and was visited by trainers afterward. The backstop wanted to stay in the game, but the trainers removed him from the contest. The exact nature of Heim's injury isn't yet clear, and it's unknown whether he'll be forced to miss additional time.

Impact The backstop swatted a 392-foot homer to left field in the sixth inning for the first long ball of his major-league career. Heim didn't show substantial power in the minors -- he has never reached double-digit homers in a single season -- though he does offer solid defense and batted .358 over 106 at-bats at Triple-A in 2019.

Notches stolen base Heim went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, a double, a walk and a run scored in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Royals.

Impact Heim drew a walk in the fourth inning and stole second base as part of a double-steal with Brock Holt. They both came around to score on Isiah Kiner-Falefa's two-run single. The 25-year-old Heim is expected to be limited to the backup catcher role behind usual starter Jose Trevino. Heim had a modest .211/.268/.211 slash line with five RBI and five runs scored across 41 plate appearances for the Athletics in 2020.

There isn't much fantasy appeal here, as Heim is batting .105 (2-for-19) with two RBI this spring, though he did manage to hit .310/.385/.477 across two minor-league stops in 2019.

Impact Heim hasn't done much at the plate this spring, going 1-for-15 over seven Cactus League games, but the Rangers are impressed with his defensive skills. That he's already on the 40-man roster works to his advantage over Drew Butera, who is not on the 40-man. A rebuilding team doesn't need to create room for a 36-year-old veteran. The 25-year-old Heim made his MLB debut in 2020 while with Oakland and slashed .211/.268/.211 over 13 games.
