Lands on injured list
Panik was placed on the injured list for an unspecified reason Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Panik had been out of the lineup in four of the last six games and went 3-for-11 with a double, three runs and two walks during that time. Since the Marlins didn't give a reason for the 30-year-old's placement on the injured list, it suggests that he's likely on the COVID-19 IL. It's not clear whether he's tested positive for the virus, but he'll be eligible to return once he passes through the league's health and safety protocols.

Benched in fifth straight
Panik remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Panik's playing time looked to be on the upswing in the middle of July, but even with the Marlins moving a few other veterans ahead of Friday's trade deadline, the 30-year-old hasn't been able to capture an everyday role. He'll be on the bench for a fifth straight game.

Draws third straight start
Panik will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Phillies.
Impact
Panik has gone 0-for-8 while starting at third base in both of Miami's last two games, but he'll continue to stick in the lineup in spite of his struggles. Jon Berti has worked as Miami's top third baseman in recent weeks while Brian Anderson (shoulder) has been on the shelf, but Berti's ability to play multiple infield and outfield spots has allowed both him and Panik to hold down semi-regular jobs in the starting nine.

Steals base in loss
Panik went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.
Impact
The second baseman's first steal since 2019 came in the fifth inning after he drew a walk. Panik was lifted from the game in the ninth inning with Jazz Chisholm (ankle) entering as a defensive replacement. Through 134 plate appearances, Panik has a .244/.299/.366 slash line, three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 45 games between the Blue Jays and the Marlins. He'll likely return to a utility role when Chisholm is ready to return to the starting nine.

Goes yard in Miami debut
Panik went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Phillies.
Impact
Making his Marlins debut after being traded from the Blue Jays, Panik got the start at third base and hit seventh and made a quick impact by taking Aaron Nola deep for a solo shot in the second inning. The veteran infielder figures to give his new club a second utility option alongside Jon Berti, but most of Panik's work should come at the hot corner until Brian Anderson (shoulder) gets healthy.

Added to roster, starts Wednesday
Panik was added to the 26-man roster Wednesday and drew the start at third base against the Phillies.
Impact
Panik was acquired from Toronto on Tuesday in a trade that sent Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson the other way. He is in the starting lineup at third base Thursday and figures to see substantial time there until Brian Anderson (shoulder) is activated from the injured list.

Dealt to Marlins
The Marlins acquired Panik and an unspecified minor-league pitcher from the Blue Jays on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Corey Dickerson (foot) and pitcher Adam Cimber, Jon Heym...
Impact
Since Panik is a 30-year-old on an expiring deal, the 33-44 Marlins likely won't make finding at-bats for him a major priority, but he'll at least provide the team with some additional flexibility off the bench. He has the ability to play all four infield spots, and he could be an option at third base in the short term while the Marlins await Brian Anderson's (shoulder) return from the injured list. Jon Berti is currently serving as the Marlins' primary starter at the hot corner, but he's cobbled together an underwhelming .230/.327/.353 slash line across 218 plate appearances this season.
