Shines in season debut Adell went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, a stolen base and a walk Tuesday against the Rangers.
Impact Adell made his first major-league appearance of the season and delivered an excellent opening performance. He drew a walk in his first plate appearance and followed that up by delivering a two-run double and RBI single later in the game. Though no conclusions can be drawn from one contest, perhaps most encouraging was that Adell did not strike out. In 132 MLB appearances in 2020, Adell struck out at a 41.7 percent clip. His inability to make consistent contact continued this season with Triple-A Salt Lake, where he punched out at a 29.2 percent rate before being promoted.

Impact Adell has continued to experience strikeout issues -- he has whiffed in over one-third of his at-bats -- but he's also shown off his prodigious power with Triple-A Salt Lake. Adell floundered in his first taste of the big leagues in 2020, and he has yet to return to peak form thus far during the young minor-league season. Through 12 games and 57 plate appearances at Triple-A, Adell is slashing .231/.298/.519 with an 8.8 percent walk rate and a 36.8 percent strikeout rate. Until Adell makes a compelling case for a call-up or until the Angels are willing to start Marsh's MLB service clock, Taylor Ward and Juan Lagares are expected to see most of the work in center field while Trout is out.

Starting season at Triple-A Adell will play for Triple-A Salt Lake when the minor-league season gets underway, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact After struggling with a .161/.212/.266 slash line in 132 at-bats at the big-league level last season, the Angels determined Adell would be best off getting more minor-league seasoning before jumping back up to the majors. That opportunity will come at Triple-A, which is no surprise given that the 22-year-old played 27 games at that level in 2019. Adell is likely to spend time with the big club at some point this season.
