INJURIES

Called up ahead of start The Yankees recalled Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his scheduled home start Wednesday against the Mariners.
Impact Brito will make at least one turn through the rotation while the Yankees wait for one of their three injured starting pitchers (Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes and Frankie Montas) to return from the 15-day injured list. Depending on how he fares Wednesday, Brito could be in store for additional starts with the big club, though his body of work with the Yankees earlier this season doesn't inspire much confidence. Before he was optioned to Triple-A in late May, Brito turned in a 5.58 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 30:18 K:BB in 40.1 innings over his 10 outings (nine starts).

In line for Wednesday's start Brito is expected to start for the Yankees on Wednesday against the Mariners, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact The Yanks haven't announced a starter for the game yet, but Brito was spotted in the clubhouse Tuesday. Brito has collected a 5.58 ERA and unimpressive 30:18 K:BB over 40.1 innings in the majors this season. Even in a pretty favorable matchup, he's not a great streaming option.

Sent down to minors Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Impact Brito struggled in his start Saturday against the Reds, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. That pushed his season ERA and WHIP to 5.58 and 1.49, respectively, which prompted the Yankees to send him down. Brito's active roster spot and slot in the rotation will go to Luis Severino, who is slated to make his campaign debut Sunday after a lengthy stay on the injured list due to a lat injury. Given his 4.0 BB/9, one of Brito's primary goals while in the minors will likely be to improve his control.
MAY 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles with control Brito did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings against the Reds. He struck out six.
Impact Brito narrowly avoided a disastrous third inning, walking three straight batters to load the bases with two outs but managed to allow just one run to score in the inning. However, the Reds got their revenge, with Luke Maile tagging Brito for a two-run home run that brought Jose Barrero in to score. After finishing each of his last three appearances with three or fewer strikeouts, Brito finally found his strikeout stuff, fanning six over four innings to tie his season-high in punchouts. With Luis Severino (lat) expected to make his debut Sunday, Brito may be headed toward a demotion considering his 5:3 K/BB and 5.58 ERA likely won't be enough to warrant keeping him on the big league roster.

Draws start Saturday Brito will toe the rubber Saturday versus the Reds, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact The Yankees officially announced Brito as the starter Saturday, waiting to nearly the last minute to make that decision public. The right-hander earned a win the last time was on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings of one-run ball while allowing six hits and striking out two batters Monday against the Blue Jays. Since he surrendered seven runs to the Twins on April 13, Brito has produced a respectable 4.56 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 25.2 frames in six appearances with the Yankees.

Earns win versus Toronto Brito (3-3) earned the win Monday, allowing four runs on six hits across 5.1 innings during a 7-4 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.
Impact Brito served as a bulk reliever Monday after Jimmy Cordero went two innings as an opener. The right-hander was solid and allowed one or fewer runs while completing at least five innings for the fourth time this season. Across nine appearances (eight starts), Brito sports a 5.20 ERA, 1.43 ERA and 24:14 K:BB over 36.1 innings. Despite the solid performance Monday, Brito is still a candidate to head back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when Luis Severino (lat) is activated off the injured list.

In line for bulk relief Brito is likely in line to serve as a bulk reliever on Monday against the Blue Jays, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Impact The Yankees are opting for Jimmy Cordero as an opener in lieu of giving Brito a traditional start. Brito holds a 10.57 ERA and opponents have a 1.102 OPS in the first inning against him this season, so the move looks sensible on paper.
MAY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
No decision Wednesday Brito did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Oakland. He struck out three.
Impact Both runs against Brito came in the second inning on back-to-back homers from Carlos Perez and Jace Peterson. Brito ultimately didn't qualify for the win, allowing a walk and a double in the fifth inning before being relieved by Jimmy Cordero. The 25-year-old Brito is now 0-3 in his last six starts after winning his first two outings of the year. Brito now sports a 5.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through eight starts (31 innings) this season. Brito may be destined for Triple-A soon, with Luis Severino (lat) starting a rehab assignment Wednesday.
MAY 10, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles early in no-decision Brito did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over four innings in a 5-4 loss against the Rays. He struck out two.
Impact Brito allowed at least one run in each of the first three innings, including solo home runs to Randy Arozarena in the first and Yandy Diaz in the third. The right-hander has surrendered multiple runs in four of his past five outings and hasn't completed more than five innings yet. Despite the struggles, Brito figures to remain in the starting rotation as long as Carlos Rodon (back) and Luis Severino (lat) remain on the 15-day injured list.

Gets back on track Brito (2-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings against Texas. He struck out five.
Impact After three consecutive starts without reaching five innings, Brito delivered a solid outing. The five strikeouts were the most the rookie has recorded since his first start of the season. Brito has a 5.56 ERA, but half of the runs he has allowed came in one start against the Twins on April 13.
APRIL 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky in short outing Brito (2-2) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Monday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Twins.
Impact Brito turned in two scoreless frames before the Twins broke out with three runs in the third inning. Minnesota has had his number in 2023; Brito has allowed 10 runs in 3.1 frames against the Twins this season compared to just two runs through 14.1 innings in his other three starts. His ERA jumped to 6.11 alongside a 12:10 K:BB. Brito's next start is projected to be in Texas this weekend.
APRIL 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Bounces back with one-run outing Brito did not factor in the decision against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one run one three hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings.
Impact Brito was shelled for seven runs over two-thirds of an inning in his previous outing after giving up just one run across 10 frames over his first pair of big-league starts. Wednesday's performance was somewhere in-between; while he issued a career-high three walks and retired the side in order just once, Brito gave up only one run, which occurred after he departed from the game. The rookie hurler labored by throwing 84 pitches (47 of which were strikes) over his 4.1 frames, but this was a promising bounce-back performance following the blow-up in his previous start. Neither Carlos Rodon (back) nor Luis Severino (lat) are expected to return until at least May, so Brito figures to get at least another couple turns in the rotation.
APRIL 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles mightily in loss Brito (2-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on six hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning against the Twins. He struck out zero.
Impact Brito was the main culprit in the Yankees' worst first inning since 2000. The rookie struggled with his command, leaving too many easy pitches over the middle of the plate for the Twins' hitters. The Dominican native will have a chance to redeem himself on Wednesday against the Angels, where he will look to regain the form he had in his first two starts (one run in 10 innings pitched).

Sharp again Saturday Brito (2-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over five innings in a 4-1 victory over the Orioles. He struck out two.
Impact The rookie right-hander wasn't dominant, generating only six swinging strikes among his 92 pitches, but Brito didn't give up much hard contact and benefitted from some strong defense behind him. Unlike his last start, Brito wasn't immediately sent back to Triple-A after his outing, and it looks as though he'll get a chance to make a case for the Yankees' fifth starter job after posting a 0.90 ERA and 8:3 K:BB through his first 10 major-league innings. If he does remain with the big club, the 25-year-old's next start would likely come at home against the Twins.

Promoted for Saturday's start Brito was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his start against the Orioles on Saturday.
Impact Brito delivered five scoreless innings during his MLB debut last weekend and will make another turn through the rotation Saturday. The 25-year-old spent most of last season at Triple-A and had a 3.31 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 53:24 K:BB across 70.2 innings. Josh Donaldson (hamstring) and Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow) were placed on the injured list.

Starting against O's on Saturday Brito will start for the Yankees on Saturday against the Orioles, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact The Yankees staff will be pushed back one day with Nestor Cortes starting against the Orioles on Sunday. Brito pitched well in his MLB debut Sunday while giving up two hits over five scoreless frames against the Giants, and he'll get another chance to impress against an Orioles lineup that has performed well thus far. The Yankees will need to make a roster move before Saturday's game.
