Activated, optioned to Triple-A The Padres reinstated Brito (forearm) from the injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.

Impact Brito has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from the UCL internal brace surgery and flexor tendon repair procedure he underwent in May 2025. He began playing in rehab games May 7 and has posted a 3.33 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across six appearances between rookie ball and Double-A. He'll move up to Triple-A now that he's fully healthy, and a promotion to the majors could come at some point if he continues to pitch well.

Impact Though Brito has a minor-league option remaining, he's been making a compelling case during his rehab assignment to join the Padres as a depth starter or multi-inning option out of the bullpen once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. Brito -- who underwent a UCL internal brace and flexor tendon surgery last May -- has looked good thus far through five rehab appearances between stops in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and San Antonio. Altogether, Brito has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 19.1 innings. After spotting 37 of his 52 pitches for strikes during Friday's outing, Brito will likely make one more start in the minors to get further stretched out before his 30-day rehab window draws to a close.

Impact Brito got into two games in the ACL, tossing a combined six innings during which he allowed five runs on nine hits while posting a 9:1 K:BB. The right-hander is about 13 months removed from the UCL internal brace procedure he underwent in April of 2025. He's reportedly building up as a starter, so he'll likely need more time to rehab than if he were preparing to pitch out of the bullpen. Brito started for San Antonio on Sunday and allowed two runs (both unearned) on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over four innings.

Impact Just over 13 months after undergoing UCL internal brace surgery as well as a flexor tendon repair operation, Brito has reached the final step in his lengthy recovery process. Despite his strong showing in his first rehab outing in Arizona, Brito is likely to be kept on assignment for the entirety of his allotted 30-day window, as he'll require multiple starts to build his pitch count and hone his command and control coming off surgery. Though the Padres are letting Brito get stretched out for a rotation role, he has a minor-league option remaining and could be sent to Triple-A El Paso rather than joining the big club once he's activated from the 60-day injured list.
