Optioned to Tacoma
The Mariners optioned Diaz to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Impact
Diaz didn't appear in a game after being recalled from the minors last week, and he'll now be sent back down in favor of Casey Lawrence. The 28-year-old Diaz has turned in a 5.87 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 30.2 innings at Tacoma.

Rejoins big club
The Mariners recalled Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Impact
Diaz will link up with the big club for the second time this season, after he previously made a 1.1-inning relief appearance April 1 against the Tigers before being demoted a day later. Since then, Diaz has been getting stretched out a starter at Tacoma and had produced a 5.87 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 30.2 innings. Diaz could be available in relief for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, but if he ends up going unused, he might be an option to make a spot start this weekend in San Diego. The Mariners have an opening in the rotation after Bryce Miller (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Diaz to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Impact
Diaz made his one appearance for Seattle on Tuesday. He allowed no runs on one hit with a strikeout in 1.1 innings. The southpaw has made the bulk of his appearances for Tacoma as a starter and figured to get a shot at securing a rotation spot in place of the injured George Kirby (shoulder). After just one relief appearance, he will return to Tacoma. A corresponding move is yet to be revealed.

Selected from Triple-A
The Mariners selected Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Impact
Diaz's selection now makes Seattle's roster full at 40 players. He was beat out by Emerson Hancock in spring training for a role in the starting rotation. Now with Hancock being optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move Tuesday, Diaz has a chance to secure the spot.

Heading to minor-league camp
The Mariners reassigned Diaz to minor-league camp Monday.
Impact
Diaz has been getting stretched out as a starter during spring training, but he wasn't in contention for a spot in Seattle's Opening Day rotation, even with the Mariners set to begin the campaign without George Kirby (shoulder). Emerson Hancock is expected to get the first crack at replacing Kirby, but Diaz could be among the next pitchers in line to make spot starts if the Mariners lose another rotation member to an injury. Diaz will continue to make regular turns through the rotation at Triple-A Tacoma until he might be needed by the big club.

Joins camp as NRI
Diaz agreed Wednesday with the Mariners on a minor-league contract, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Seattle removed Diaz from its 40-man roster earlier this month, and after he elected free agency upon clearing waivers, the 28-year-old will now rejoin the Mariners for the start of spring training. He'll be attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee and will presumably get the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen as a long reliever. The Mariners boast a talented rotation that has all five members healthy heading into spring training, but Diaz's prior big-league starting experience could put him high on the list for spot starts if injuries in the rotation stack up at any point. He made five appearances (one start) for Seattle in 2024, covering 9.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on 14 hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Enters open market
Diaz cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent.
Impact
Diaz ended up as the Mariners' roster casualty following the acquisition of Casey Legumina. After going unclaimed off waivers, Diaz will now exercise his right to leave the organization and explore his other options. The 28-year-old righty owns a 4.80 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 45 career MLB innings.

Removed from 40-man roster
The Mariners designated Diaz for assignment Monday.
Impact
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Casey Legumina. Diaz, 28, has been unimpressive over parts of four big-league seasons, compiling a 4.80 ERA and 32:27 K:BB across 45 innings. He should stand a good chance of passing through waivers unclaimed.

Optioned by Seattle
The Mariners optioned Diaz to the Spring Training Complex on Monday.
Impact
The move makes room on the Mariners' roster for right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (biceps), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list. Diaz has made two appearances for the big club since being recalled Sept. 1, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three over 3.1 scoreless innings.

Moves up from Triple-A
The Mariners recalled Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.
Impact
Diaz had started in all but one of his 24 appearances for Tacoma this season, logging a 4.73 ERA and 120:54 K:BB in 118 innings. With all five of the Mariners' starting pitchers healthy at the moment and new manager Dan Wilson having yet to express a desire to move to a six-man rotation, Diaz looks like he'll serve as a long-relief option for now.

Optioned to Tacoma
The Mariners optioned Diaz to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Impact
Diaz has given up two earned runs in one-plus innings over his two appearances since being promoted from Triple-A on Tuesday. He will now lose his spot in Seattle's bullpen to make room for Jonathan Hernandez, who was claimed off waivers from Texas on Friday.

Takes loss in extras
Diaz (0-1) took the extra-inning loss against the Red Sox on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over one-third of an inning.
Impact
Diaz's first outing of his current big-league tenure, which just began Tuesday, lasted all of three pitches, as he surrendered a game-winning RBI double to Rafael Devers that plated phantom runner Tyler O'Neill. The southpaw has only one other appearance at the big-league level this season, having made a spot start against the White Sox back on June 11. While Diaz did see high-leverage work Wednesday, that's an outlier largely the byproduct of Andres Munoz and Yimi Garcia having worked a combined 3.1 and three innings, respectively, over the previous four days.

Summoned from minors
The Mariners recalled Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Impact
Diaz will take Gabe Speier's spot on the 26-man roster, marking Diaz's second MLB stint of the season. The 27-year-old's lone appearance with the Mariners came in June when he allowed three runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings as a starter. He's expected to serve out of the bullpen during this stint but could be called upon if the Mariners need a last-second starter. In 18 Triple-A outings (17 starts), Diaz has a 3.88 ERA with a 95:42 K:BB during 97.1 innings.

Added to 40-man roster
The Mariners added Diaz to their 40-man roster Wednesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Diaz got off to a hot start at Triple-A Tacoma, allowing just one earned run while striking out 27 batters across 24 frames through his first four outings. He has since slowed down, but the 27-year-old southpaw still holds a solid 3.18 ERA and 1.10 WHIP alongside a 55:9 K:BB through 51 innings. He will remain in the minors for the time being, but continued success could allow him to make his Mariners debut later this summer -- likely as a long reliever.

Diaz has signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Impact
Diaz, 27, holds a 4.84 ERA and 24:24 K:BB over 35.1 frames covering parts of three seasons at the big-league level. The left-hander has experience as a starter and reliever and is likely headed to Triple-A Tacoma at the beginning of the 2024 season.

Loses 40-man roster spot
Diaz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Diaz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact
With Jaime Barria (hamstring) returning from the injured list Saturday, Diaz will be squeezed off the major-league roster. The 27-year-old lefty gave up eight runs in seven innings during his stint with the Angels while striking out four batters and walking seven.

Torn up by Tigers
Diaz allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks over one-third of an inning in relief during Friday's loss to Detroit.
Impact
When Diaz entered the game for the Angels in the eighth inning, the game was still relatively close, with the Tigers leading 4-1. However, the lefty reliever couldn't keep it that way -- he allowed nine of the 10 batters he faced to reach base, with his only out coming on a sacrifice fly. Diaz had been unscored upon over 4.2 major-league innings coming into Friday, but his ERA now sits at 12.60.

Promoted to majors
The Angels recalled Diaz from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact
Diaz has spent all season with Salt Lake, putting up a 4.55 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through 87 innings. He had a solid run with the Angels last season to the tune of a 2.93 ERA over 15.1 frames, and the team will hope to get similar production out of Diaz as a multi-inning reliever for the final month of the season. Gerardo Reyes was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

ROTOWIRE
Reassigned to minor-league camp
The Angels reassigned Diaz to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Impact
Diaz missed much of last season due to an unspecified injury and was designated for assignment in November. The lefty eventually returned to the Angels on a minor-league contract and got into four games this spring, allowing just one unearned run on one hit while posting a 6:1 K:BB over seven innings. Though he'll likely open the season in Triple-A, Diaz should be among the first candidates for a call-up if Los Angeles has a need for pitching depth during the campaign.
