Lands on IL with strained hamstring
The Astros placed Pena on the 10-day injured list Monday with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The Astros had previously referred to Pena's injury as right posterior knee tightness, but evidently the issue is concentrated more in his hamstring. A Grade 1 strain is the least severe and could allow Pena to return around the time he's first eligible, though the Astros will be careful since hamstring strains are prone to reaggravation. While Pena is sidelined, the Astros will roll with Carlos Correa at shortstop and Isaac Paredes at third base.

Held out of Sunday's lineup
Pena (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 28-year-old shortstop departed Saturday's 8-7 loss due to right posterior knee tightness. According to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle, manager Joe Espada said Sunday that he didn't have an update available for Pena, who should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated. Nick Allen will step in at shortstop Sunday for the Astros.

Departs with knee injury Saturday
Pena was pulled from Saturday's contest against Seattle due to right posterior knee tightness, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Pena got two plate appearances in the contest, going 1-for-3. Following his single in the fourth inning, he advanced to second on a flyout and to third on an Isaac Paredes single. Following the Paredes hit, Pena exited and was replaced by pinch runner Nick Allen, who subsequently took over at shortstop. Pena will presumably be examined to determine the extent of his injury.

Taking seat Sunday
Pena is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Pena played back-to-back games Friday and Saturday for the first time this season -- going 3-for-7 with two walks and three doubles -- so it's not a surprise he's taking a seat for Sunday's series finale in Sacramento. The 28-year-old will continue building up to an everyday workload after missing most of spring training due to a fractured right ring finger. Nick Allen is manning shortstop and batting ninth Sunday.

Could play back-to-back this week
Pena (finger) could be ready to play in back-to-back games this weekend, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Pena managed to avoid an injured list stint but has started every other game so far as the Astros ease him back into action following a fractured right ring finger. The 28-year-old is off Wednesday and the Astros are idle Thursday, so he could be ready to play back-to-back contests as soon as Friday and Saturday against the Athletics.

Pena is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact
Pena continues to play every other day as the Astros ease him back into action following a recovery from a fractured finger. He should be ready to resume everyday status soon, but it's unclear when exactly it will happen. Carlos Correa is playing shortstop and Isaac Paredes is at third base as the Astros go for the series sweep.

Swipes bag in 2026 debut
Pena went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Angels.
Impact
After being held out Opening Day, Pena made his season debut hitting leadoff and set the table very effectively. The shortstop missed most of spring training, and a chance to play for the Dominican Republic during the WBC, as a result of a fractured fingertip he sustained in early March, but Pena recovered in time to avoid a stint on the IL and appears to be fully healthy.
