INJURIES

Parts ways with Oakland Lowrie was released by the A's on Thursday.
Impact Lowrie was designated for assignment by Oakland on Wednesday, and he's now officially on the open market. The 38-year-old has appeared in 50 games this season and has a .180/.245/.263 slash line with three home runs and 16 RBI.

Lowrie's time with A's arrives at emotional end OAKLAND -- In a time that has seen the A’s go through vast roster turnover on a yearly basis, Jed Lowrie emerged as a mainstay over the past...

Designated for assignment Lowrie was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Wednesday.
Impact Lowrie wasn't in the lineup for the last two games, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after slashing just .180/.245/.263 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 14 runs and a stolen base over 50 games with the Athletics this year. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 38-year-old become a free agent if he goes unclaimed on waivers. Seth Brown should see increased playing time as the Athletics' designated hitter.
AUGUST 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
On bench again Tuesday Lowrie is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.
Impact Lowrie is 2-for-16 with a double and a walk in four games since being reinstated from the injured list last week, and he'll take a seat for the second consecutive contest. Chad Pinder will bat fifth as the designated hitter Tuesday.
AUGUST 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Left out of Monday's lineup Lowrie is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.
Impact Lowrie is just 2-for-16 (.125) since being activated from the injured list last week, so he will get a mental break Monday. Stephen Piscotty will serve as Oakland's designated hitter instead.
AUGUST 8, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Singles in return from IL Lowrie (shoulder), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in a loss to the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact Lowrie was logging his first game action since June 26, and it was naturally a nice plus that he was able to not only suit up, but hit safely right out of the gate. However, Lowrie's .187 average and .522 OPS, as well as his middling 85.8 mph exit velocity and career-low 17.8 percent line-drive rate, all support the notion that he's likely lost some bat speed and power in his age-38 season.

Fletcher's leadoff homer propels Angels to 3-1 win over A's

David Fletcher hit a leadoff homer, José Suarez didn’t allow an earned run in his second consecutive start and the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-1
AUGUST 3, 2022 • Associated Press
Back from injured list Lowrie (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Lowire wound up missing slightly more than a month with a left shoulder injury, but he's ready to go after grabbing six hits (including a pair of homers) in five rehab games. The Athletics don't have much of an incentive to give a ton of at-bats to a 38-year-old on an expiring deal down the stretch, however, so it's unclear how often he'll be in the lineup going forward.
AUGUST 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Stellar night for Las Vegas Lowrie (shoulder) started at first base in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Albuquerque on Saturday and went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a two-run shot and four total runs.
Impact Lowrie played nearly a full game and seemed to have rediscovered his stroke at the plate following a 1-for-11 showing over his first three rehab contests. Lowrie's extended stint on defense was also a good sign for his previously injured shoulder, and it remains to be seen if the Athletics feel he's shown enough to be deemed ready for activation to open the week.

Sheets homers, doubles late to lift White Sox over A's 3-2

Gavin Sheets hit a tying, two-run homer in the seventh inning and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth to lift the Chicago White Sox over the Oakland Athletics 3-2
JULY 31, 2022 • Associated Press
Plays first two rehab games Lowrie (shoulder) went a combined 1-for-8 with a walk over his first two rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Impact The veteran was eased into his first game action in a month Tuesday by logging three plate appearances while playing first base, and he subsequently took a full complement while serving as the designated hitter Wednesday. With no apparent setbacks, it's possible Lowrie is deemed to only require another couple of games before activation is considered.
JULY 28, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picking up rehab pace Lowrie (shoulder) took batting practice Friday and is slated to do so again Saturday while also running the bases, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Impact The veteran also performed running drills on the field Friday and came away from the pregame work saying his swing particularly felt good. The Athletics will reevaluate Lowrie after Saturday's activities in order to determine the next steps in his recovery process.
JULY 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Receives cortisone shot Lowrie (shoulder) underwent an MRI that revealed some fluid in his shoulder, and he received a cortisone shot, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Lowrie landed on the injured list with a shoulder injury Thursday, and he'll rest for a few days prior to resuming a strengthening program. The 38-year-old doesn't have a timetable to return, but it's possible that he'll require more than the minimum of 10 days on the IL.

A's demote Opening Day CF Pache in flurry of roster moves Veteran Jed Lowrie placed on the 10-day injured list among the A’s seven transactions.
JULY 1, 2022 • MERCURYNEWS.COM
Undergoes MRI Lowrie had an MRI on his shoulder Thursday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Lowrie landed on the injured list Thursday, but the team is looking to clarify the extent of the injury. The issue initially emerged in early June, but Oakland believed that Lowrie had made enough progress to avoid an extended absence. Instead, Lowrie will be sidelined for at least the next 10 days.
JULY 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on 10-day IL Lowrie (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Impact Lowrie didn't appear in the last three games due to a left shoulder injury, and the issue will force him to miss at least a week and a half. It's not yet clear when the Athletics expect him to return to action, but he isn't guaranteed regular playing time for the rebuilding squad once he's cleared to rejoin the team.

Judge, Stanton homer to bail out Taillon, Yanks top A's 5-3

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton homered to fuel the New York Yankees’ major league-best 24th comeback victory, bailing out Jameson Taillon in a 5-3 win over the Oakland Athletics
JUNE 29, 2022 • Associated Press
Battling shoulder injury Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Wednesday that Lowrie's recent string of absences from the lineup is related to a left shoulder injury, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chroni...
Impact In the 18 games since he suffered the injury in question, Lowrie has picked up just four starts, including only one in the Athletics' most recent seven contests. Kotsay noted that the Athletics have considered placing Lowrie on the 10-day injured list, but the team looks as though it'll wait another day or two before making a decision on that front. The 38-year-old Lowrie is hitless in his last 25 at-bats and likely isn't a high-priority player for the rebuilding Athletics, so he could be phased out of the regular lineup even if he moves past the shoulder issue in the near future.
JUNE 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Out against lefty Lowrie is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact The switch-hitting Lowrie is on the bench for the fourth time in five games, this time taking a seat versus a lefty starting pitcher (Jordan Montgomery). Given his recent usage as well as the 25-49 Athletics' status as a non-contender, the 38-year-old Lowrie may be more likely to see his role dwindle than grow as the season rolls along. The likes of Seth Brown and Christian Bethancourt may be better bets to pick up starts at designated hitter at Lowrie's expense.
JUNE 27, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Remains on bench Lowrie is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Christian Bethancourt will serve as the designated hitter Saturday, and he's fifth different DH the A's have used over the past five games. Lowrie still appears to be the primary option as Oakland's DH, but that clearly doesn't guarantee a spot in the everyday lineup.
JUNE 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sits again Friday Lowrie will be on the bench Friday against the Royals, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Lowrie return from shoulder and wrist issues to start a pair of games last weekend, but he's since been on the bench in three of the last four games. Stephen Vogt will serve as Friday's designated hitter.
JUNE 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Thursday Lowrie is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.
Impact Lowrie will sit for the second time in the series while top backstop Sean Murphy gets a day out of the field to serve as Oakland's designated hitter. Though Lowrie still looks like the Athletics' preferred option at DH, off days could come more frequently for the 38-year-old as the season unfolds and the team prioritizes younger options.
JUNE 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Not in Tuesday's lineup Lowrie will sit Tuesday against Seattle, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Lowrie returned from wrist and shoulder injuries to start both weekend games against the Royals but went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Jonah Bride will take over as the designated hitter Tuesday.
JUNE 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Saturday Lowrie (wrist/shoulder) is starting Saturday against the Royals.
Impact Lowrie was out of the lineup for the last seven games due to wrist and shoulder injuries, but he went 0-for-1 with a strikeout as a pinch hitter Friday. He'll serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth Saturday.
