Back to Triple-A The Yankees optioned Escarra to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.
Impact With Escarra headed back to the minors, it means Ali Sanchez will likely be activated from the paternity list ahead of Friday's game against Boston. Escarra didn't see action in any of the three games after he was recalled Tuesday.

Back in majors The Yankees recalled Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
Impact Escarra was just sent down this past weekend, but he's back with the big club to take the roster spot vacated by Ali Sanchez (paternity). The 31-year-old will serve as the backup catcher behind Austin Wells while Sanchez is away for the next couple days.

Sent back to Triple-A The Yankees optioned Escarra to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Impact The Yankees sent Escarra down to the minors earlier this month but were forced to bring him back a day later once Austin Wells (head) landed on the IL. Now that Wells is set to return to the active roster Sunday, Escarra will move back to Triple-A after posting a .493 OPS in 91 plate appearances with the Pinstripes. Ali Sanchez will remain as the backup catcher in the Bronx.

Taking seat against southpaw Escarra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
Impact The Yankees will go with a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay, so Escarra will retreat to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Spencer Jones and Ryan McMahon. Ali Sanchez will get the nod at catcher, forming a battery with starting pitcher Carlos Rodon.

Hitting bench Wednesday Escarra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Impact Left-hander Parker Messick is on the bump for Cleveland, so the left-handed-hitting Escarra will give way to the right-handed-hitting Ali Sanchez behind the dish in the series finale. Escarra was included in the lineup against righties in the first two games of the series and appears poised to occupy the strong side of a platoon at catcher while top backstop Austin Wells (headaches) is on the shelf.

Back in majors The Yankees recalled Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Impact Escarra was sent down to Triple-A on Friday after putting up just a .493 OPS through 68 plate appearances, but he'll turn around and return to the Bronx now that Austin Wells (head) is on the injured list. Escarra will likely work in a timeshare alongside Ali Sanchez behind the plate until Wells returns.

Impact Escarra has slashed just .177/.235/.258 across 68 plate appearances while operating as the Yankees' backup catcher. No longer satisfied with his performance, the team will send the 31-year-old down to Triple-A to right the ship and promote Ali Sanchez to take Escarra's spot on the bench.

Filling in for resting Wells Escarra will start at catcher and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Impact Escarra will pick up his eighth start of the season Wednesday while Austin Wells receives a routine breather for a day game after a night game. So long as Wells maintains health, Escarra will likely be in line for little more than one or two starts per week as the Yankees' No. 2 catcher.

Slated for No. 2 catcher role Escarra is expected to serve as New York's backup catcher behind Austin Wells this season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Impact Escarra got his first taste of big-league action last season and posted a .202/.296/.33 slash line with two homers, 11 RBI, one stolen base and an 11:14 BB:K over 98 plate appearances. Both he and Wells bat left-handed, so Escarra's opportunities to play will likely come exclusively when Wells needs a rest day. Ben Rice, who's slated to be the team's primary first baseman, also has experience behind the plate and saw action at that position in 36 contests last year, though it's unclear how often (if at all) the Yankees will use him as a catcher this year.
