Seeing ample use as utility man Sanoja will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Impact Sanoja will stick in the lineup for the fourth time in five games, with each of those four starts coming at different positions (third base, second base, shortstop and left field). The 22-year-old has produced a .606 OPS through 25 plate appearances and should remain a regular presence in the lineup versus left-handed pitching while also occasionally drawing starts against righties thanks to his ability to play all three outfield positions as well as three infield spots.

Stowers hits run-scoring single in 9th to lift Marlins to 5-4 win over Pirates

Kyle Stowers hit a run-scoring single in the ninth inning and the Miami Marlins spoiled the first opening day start for Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes with a 5-4 victory over the Pirates

Cracks Opening Day roster Sanoja made the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Impact Sanoja made his major-league debut for the Marlins in 2024 and appeared in 15 regular-season games. Jesus Sanchez (side) will miss the start of the 2025 season due to being placed on the IL, and Sanoja's ability to play multiple positions helped him earn a spot on Opening Day roster. Sanoja finished spring training with a .297/.381/.378 slash line with five walks, eight runs scored and seven RBI across 42 plate appearances.
MARCH 26 • ROTOWIRE
May have won roster spot Sanoja appears ticketed for the Marlins' Opening Day roster with Jesus Sanchez (side) set to begin the season on the injured list, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The 22-year-old made his big-league debut last season and saw action at four different spots on the diamond (second base, shortstop, center field and left field) during his 15 appearances with the Marlins. Sanoja will have a similar role to begin the 2025 campaign, and he hasn't looked overmatched at the plate this spring either, batting .296 (8-for-27) with a 4:3 BB:K. Should he find his way into consistent playing time, the 5-foot-7 Sanoja isn't going to supply any power, but he might be a fantasy contributor in stolen bases -- he went 17-for-24 on the basepaths between Double-A and Triple-A in 2024, and swiped 31 bags in 102 games at Single-A Jupiter the season before.

Competing for super-utility role Manager Clayton McCullough said Sunday that Sanoja is likely to see playing time at every position in the field except first base and catcher during spring training, Christina De N...
Impact The 22-year-old made his big-league debut in September and had a .229/.250/.286 slash line in his first 15 MLB games, and he's now attempting to earn a spot on Miami's Opening Day roster. Sanoja isn't likely to receive regular playing time even if he secures a roster spot, but the defensive versatility could allow him to carve out a larger role.
MARCH 2 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to bench role Sanoja is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.
Impact After getting called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 7, Sanoja proceeded to start in seven of the Marlins' ensuing nine games, seeing time in left field and center field and both middle-infield spots during that stretch. However, with Xavier Edwards stepping back in as the Marlins' everyday shortstop and with Miami facing right-handers on consecutive days, Sanoja has found himself back on the bench for both contests. The rookie looks set to operate as a short-side platoon player for the duration of the season.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up first big-league hits Sanoja went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
Impact Making his first career big-league start and batting eighth as the center fielder, Sanoja led off the second inning with a double into the right-center field gap for his first career hit. The 22-year-old switched to shortstop late in the 10-1 rout, mirroring his minor-league utility usage -- at Triple-A Jacksonville he's played at least 39 games at second base, shortstop and center this season. That versatility also came with a .294/.356/.438 slash line, and while he offers little power from a 5-7 frame, Sanoja's speed, hit tool and batting eye could be good enough for him to carve out a regular role in the majors.

Joins big-league club The Marlins selected Sanoja's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.
Impact Since earning a promotion to Triple-A in late April, Sanoja has slashed .294/.356/.438 with six homers and 59 RBI across 492 plate appearances with the Jumbo Shrimp. The 22-year-old's performance has now earned him his first MLB call-up, and his ability to play in both the infield and outfield will make it easier for him to work his way into the starting lineup.
