Triolo leads Pirates against the Reds after 4-hit game
The Pittsburgh Pirates play the Cincinnati Reds after Jared Triolo had four hits against the Reds on Saturday

Associated Press
Racks up four hits in victory
Triolo went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs in Saturday's 13-12 win against the Reds.
Impact
Triolo was a key contributor in the Pirates' comeback from a 9-0 deficit, as he notched a hit and scored a run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth frames. The rookie infielder finished with the first four-hit game of his career and logged his fourth multi-hit performance over his past six contests. Over that span, he's batting .579 (11-for-19) with two homers, three doubles, three RBI and nine runs scored.

Knocks second homer
Triolo went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs.
Impact
Triolo has gone 6-for-23 (.261) over eight games since he was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sept. 6. This was his first game with an RBI in that span. The infielder is slashing .271/.350/.340 with two homers, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and four stolen bases through 163 plate appearances this season. He doesn't have an everyday role, but he can provide cover around the infield for the Pirates.

Back in big leagues
Triolo was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Impact
He's taking the roster spot of the injured Andrew McCutchen (Achilles). Triolo has collected a .664 OPS with home run and three stolen bases over 137 plate appearances during his time with the big club this season. He could see a little action at designated hitter with 'Cutch out.

Optioned to Indy
The Pirates optioned Triolo to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Impact
With Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) returning from the injured list Friday, Triolo will end up serving as Pittsburgh's roster casualty. The 25-year-old infielder has slashed .273/.350/.314 across 137 plate appearances since earning his first call up to the majors in late June, and he could be a candidate to return to the Pirates again once rosters expand in September.

Swipes two bags Tuesday
Triolo went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Mets.
Impact
Getting the start at second base and batting eighth, the 25-year-old rookie swiped both his bags in the sixth inning off the battery of Jose Butto and Francisco Alvarez. Triolo has been fairly productive in August, batting .296 (8-for-27) with a homer and all three of his big-league steals, and the Pirates' plan in the absence of Oneil Cruz (ankle) and Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) appears to be to rotate the young trio of Triolo, Liover Peguero and Alika Williams through the two middle-infield spots.

Headed for bench role
Triolo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game agains the Tigers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) returned from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and will rejoin the starting lineup Wednesday, so Triolo's run as the Pirates' everyday third baseman appears to be over. While starting all but one of the Pirates' last 28 games, Triolo hit a respectable .268 but otherwise offered little in the way of fantasy production (zero home runs, zero stolen bases, 13 runs and nine RBI).

With slick glove and hot bat, Jared Triolo could give Pirates an interesting dilemma
Originally thought to be a short-term solution at third base, Jared Triolo has given the Pirates plenty more to consider.

Reaching base consistently
Triolo went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Giants.
Impact
Triolo extended his hitting streak to nine games with the effort, and he's hit .333 with a .395 on-base percentage in that span. He's reached base consistently across 57 career plate appearances in the majors, though he has only two extra-base hits. Triolo will likely lose out on playing time when Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) is able to return, though it's unclear when that may be.

Replacing injured Hayes again
Triolo will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact
Triolo's time as Pittsburgh's everyday third baseman looked to be coming to an end when Ke'Bryan Hayes returned from the injured list Thursday, but the rookie's stint atop the depth chart was re-extended when Hayes went back on the IL just one day later after his lower-back discomfort flared back up. The Pirates could look to take things slower with Hayes this time around in light of the setback, so Triolo could be able to maintain a regular role coming out of the All-Star break. Since joining the Pirates on June 28, Triolo has hit .306 with no home runs or stolen bases and has scored six runs over 10 games.

Could lose out on playing time
Triolo is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers.
Impact
Triolo had started eight consecutive games since being promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis. He's hit fairly well in the small sample by maintaining a .286 batting average, though he's also struck out 11 times in 32 plate appearances. However, he'll lose his spot at third base due to the return of Ke'Bryan Hayes and may have to settle for splitting time in the middle infield with Nick Gonzales and Rodolfo Castro.

Another path to potential at-bats
Triolo went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks Monday against the Dodgers.
Impact
Triolo has enjoyed an everyday role at third base since being promoted to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. While he has only a limited sample since, he's maintained a 13 percent walk rate -- a mark in line with his minor-league track record -- and also has one extra-base hit. Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) appears to be nearing a return, but the absence of Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) could cause the Pirates to shuffle their infield. In that scenario, Nick Gonzales could shift primarily to second base and leave Triolo to split time with Tucupita Marcano at shortstop. It's also possible that Pittsburgh opts to demote Triolo to make room on the roster for Hayes' activation.

First big-league hit
Triolo went 1-for-3 Wednesday against the Padres.
Impact
Triolo was promoted Wednesday and made his first big-league start while hitting eighth in the lineup while playing third base. He got an opportunity in the majors with Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) sidelined, but he will likely have to split reps at third base with Rodolfo Castro. Prior to tallying his first big-league hit, Triolo maintained an .839 OPS across 159 plate appearances and a 27.7 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Promoted to majors
Pittsburgh recalled Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Impact
Ke'Bryan Hayes will be sidelined for at least the next seven days because of a lower back issue, giving Triolo an opportunity to impress at third base. The 25-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and had registered a .309/.412/.463 batting line with one home run and eight stolen bases through 41 games this season in the minors.

Playing regularly at Triple-A
Triolo (wrist) has gone 5-for-17 with two doubles, a walk, four RBI and two runs in four games since Triple-A Indianapolis reinstated him from the 7-day injured list May 9.
Impact
Triolo missed the first month of the minor-league season while recovering from surgery to address a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist. After completing a four-game rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton earlier this month, the 25-year-old third baseman received the green light last week to rejoin the Pirates' top affiliate.

Begins season on IL
Triple-A Indianapolis placed Triolo (wrist) on its 7-day injured list March 31.
Impact
According to Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com, Pirates medical director Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Triolo won't be cleared to resume baseball activities for another 4-to-6 weeks after undergoing surgery recently to address a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. The 25-year-old doesn't look as though he'll be ready to make his 2023 debut until around mid-May.

Wrist surgery on tap
Triolo is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days to address a fractured hamate bone on one of his wrists, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Impact
Triolo last appeared in Grapefruit League action for the Pirates on March 14, so he likely suffered the hand injury in that game or in a minor-league contest on the back fields at camp at some point over the past two weeks. The Pirates won't have a timeline for Triolo to make his 2023 debut until after surgery is completed, but the 25-year-old will more than likely be sidelined for at least the first month of the season. When healthy, Triolo is expected to play on an everyday basis at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Optioned to Triple-A
Triolo was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates on Tuesday.
Impact
Triolo was 0-for-18 with four walks through 11 games this spring in Grapefruit League play, but he at least proved that the hyperextended left knee which plagued him down the stretch last year is no longer an issue. The 25-year-old might be able to climb to the MLB level at some point in 2023.
