Settles for no-decision Taillon allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.1 innings in Friday's loss to the Nationals. He didn't factor into the decision.
Impact Taillon picked up his first win of the season in his last outing, but he allowed three runs on a pair of homers in the top of the second inning Friday. The Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, and Taillon was forced to settle for a no-decision. The right-hander now has a 5.02 ERA and 34:6 K:BB in 28.2 innings across his first six starts of the season. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Corey Kluber has got his groove back with the New York Yankees
Picks up first victory Taillon (1-2) earned the win Saturday versus the Tigers after giving up one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over five innings.
Impact The 29-year-old set a season high with eight strikeouts and generated 16 swinging strikes on only 79 pitches to record his first victory in exactly two years. Taillon has a 5.24 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB through 22.1 innings this season, and he tentatively lines up to pitch next weekend versus the Nationals.

Gives up four runs Sunday Taillon (0-2) allowed four runs on five hits and no walks while striking out six in four innings to take the loss against Cleveland on Sunday.
Impact Taillon was sharp in his last start and began Sunday's outing by tossing three scoreless frames. However, he allowed three singles with no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning before Franmil Reyes blasted a three-run shot to put Taillon in line for his second loss of 2021. The right-hander has posted a 6.23 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 17.1 innings across his first four starts of the season. Taillon will attempt to bounce back at home against the Tigers on Saturday.

Sharp in no-decision Taillon didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Atlanta, giving up one run on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.
Impact The right-hander threw 55 of 80 pitches before hitting the showers, and his only stumble came in the third inning when he gave up back-to-back doubles to Guillermo Heredia and Ehire Adrianza. Taillon is still looking for his first win, or first quality start, of the season, and he'll take a 5.40 ERA and 15:2 K:BB through 13.1 innings into his next outing Sunday in Cleveland.

Struggles in first loss Taillon (0-1) was charged with the loss against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, surrendering five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three across 3.2 innings.
Impact Hopes were high for the 29-year-old after turning in a decent start in his season debut, during which he allowed two runs on three hits while striking out seven across 4.2 innings against the Orioles. This time around, Taillon struggled to quiet Toronto's bats and was pulled in the fourth frame after serving up a home run to Marcus Semien and an RBI double to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In all, Taillon threw 59 of his 84 pitches for strikes, hitting a batter and tossing a wild pitch in the process. The right-hander was making just his second start since 2019 following a recovery period after his second Tommy John surgery. It's worth noting that a former bout with testicular cancer has pumped the brakes along the way as well. Taillon will get another chance at home Sunday versus Tampa Bay.

Strikes out seven in debut Taillon allowed two runs on three hits while striking out seven across 4.2 innings in Wednesday's game against the Orioles. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Taillon was once considered the next big pitching prospect for the Pirates before two Tommy John surgeries and a run-in with testicular cancer halted his career progression. Finally healthy once again, everyone was intrigued to see how the 29-year-old would bounce back in his return to the mound, and he did not disappoint. Taillon didn't allow a base runner through three innings but was punished in the fourth when he let up two solo home runs in a span of three hitters. He ultimately was pulled after 74 pitches -- no surprise, as manager Aaron Boone said before the season that the team would be cautious with his workload early on. Taillon would've had a phenomenal outing if not for the two home runs allowed; however, he did record his final six outs via strikeout and did not issue any walks. He's expected to make his next appearance Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Won't debut until April 7 Manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Taillon won't start until the Yankees' sixth game of the season April 7 against the Orioles, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact Taillon will head into Opening Day as the team's nominal fifth starter, with Boone noting that he wants to "slow play" the right-hander as he returns from his second career Tommy John procedure, which he underwent in August 2019. Expect the Yankees to monitor Taillon's workloads carefully to begin the season, while also building in extra days of rest for the 29-year-old whenever possible. Taillon has allowed only one run while striking out 14 over 8.1 innings this spring, but he's also walked four while yielding a .257 batting average against.
MARCH 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Strong start to spring Through four Grapefruit League appearances, Taillon has given up one run on nine hits and four walks while striking out 14 in 8.1 innings.
Impact The Yankees haven't asked Taillon to cover any more than 2.2 innings in any of his four spring outings, but the right-hander has looked good thus far in his comeback from Tommy John surgery. Expect New York to exercise some caution with Taillon's pitch and innings counts early on during the regular season, but the 29-year-old should get a longer leash as the campaign rolls along. He's projected to open the season as the Yankees' No. 3 starter.
