Arrives in Buffalo Bloss has joined Triple-A Buffalo and is slated to start Saturday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Bloss was acquired from the Astros at the trade deadline as a part of the return package for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi and Bloss will now make his first start with Triple-A Buffalo. The 23-year-old made three starts with Houston, giving up nine runs over 11.2 innings while striking out 11 batters. General manager Ross Atkins said following the deadline last week that Bloss will get some run at Triple-A before joining the major-league rotation later this season.

Should join rotation later in year General manager Ross Atkins indicated Tuesday that Bloss will get some "breathing room" at Triple-A Buffalo before being called up and added to the Blue Jays' rotation, Kaitlyn McG...
Impact The right-hander was part of the package the Jays received from Houston in the Yusei Kikuchi deal, but Bloss will begin his Toronto tenure in the minors to help him get settled. Assuming he sees game action for Buffalo, the Bisons will be the fifth different affiliate the 23-year-old has pitched for this season -- he began the year with High-A Asheville before stints at Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugarland, eventually making his big-league debut with the Astros on June 21. Bloss posted an impressive 1.64 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 63:21 K:BB in 66 innings across his three minor-league stops, but he got tagged for five homers in 11.2 frames for the Astros before the trade.

Headed to Buffalo The Blue Jays optioned Bloss to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Bloss was a member of Houston's rotation and had been slated to start Monday before he was dealt to Toronto in the deal that sent Yusei Kikuchi to the Astros, but the Blue Jays will opt to ease him into the organization at the Triple-A level. Bloss is a 23-year-old righty with a deep arsenal and good control. He tossed four scoreless frames with three strikeouts and zero walks in his lone Triple-A start as a member of the Astros.

Going to Toronto for Kikuchi The Blue Jays acquired Bloss from the Astros on Monday as part of their return for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bloss was scheduled to start for the Astros on Monday against the Pirates, but he was a late scratch due to his inclusion in the trade. He last pitched Tuesday, so he could slot into the Toronto rotation for its series this week in Baltimore. One of the Astros' top pitching prospects, Bloss had a 1.48 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 48.2 innings across his last nine minor-league starts, primarily at Double-A. He doesn't have dominant stuff, but Bloss has a deep pitch mix and throws strikes (5.5 percent walk rate in the majors).

Going to Toronto for Kikuchi Bloss was traded from the Astros to the Blue Jays on Monday as part of the return for Yusei Kikuchi, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bloss was scheduled to start Monday at home against the Pirates, but he was a late scratch due to his inclusion in this trade. He last pitched July 23, so he could slot into the Blue Jays' rotation for its series this week in Baltimore. One of the Astros' top pitching prospects, Bloss had a 1.48 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 48.2 innings across his last nine minor-league starts, primarily at Double-A. Not starting Monday Bloss was scratched from his slated start Monday against the Pirates, Brian Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Impact Bloss has made three starts for the Astros since being activated from the injured list July 11 due to right shoulder inflammation. In his last start against Oakland on July 23, he allowed five runs on six hits (including four home runs) and one walk while striking out five across four innings. The reason for Bloss' removal has not been announced, nor has the name of his replacement.

Not starting Monday Bloss was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Pirates, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Impact Bloss has made two starts for the Astros since being activated from the injured list July 11, covering eight innings while allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. The Astros haven't provided an explanation for why Bloss was scratched from the start, and he may still be available out of the bullpen if Houston elects to have a reliever serve as its opening pitcher for the game.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Victimized by home run ball Bloss (0-1) took the loss in Tuesday's game against the Athletics, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five over four innings.
Impact Bloss did not fare well against a hot Athletics lineup. He began by allowing a leadoff triple before Brent Rooker took him deep to put the Astros in an early 2-0 hole. Lawrence Butler was next to homer off him in the third before Seth Brown and Zach Gelof went back-to-back in the fourth. Bloss hasn't been able to cover more than four innings in any of his three starts since getting promoted just over a month ago and he'll likely see his time in the bigs temporarily come to an end next week once Justin Verlander (neck) returns from the injured list. Bloss has a 6.94 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 11.2 innings.
JULY 24, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Getting another start Bloss is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics in Oakland, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Bloss will be making his first turn through the rotation of the second half after he returned from the 15-day injured list July 11 and covered four innings in a start against the Marlins. The rookie right-hander's stay in the rotation will likely come to an end once Justin Verlander (neck) is activated from the IL, perhaps as soon as next week.
JULY 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Goes four innings in return Bloss did not factor into the decision in a win over the Marlins on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over four innings while striking out four.
Impact Bloss got off to a bit of a rough start, surrendering a solo homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the second at-bat of the game before then throwing two wild pitches in the second inning, which helped lead to another run coming across for Miami. However, the right-hander appeared to settle in after that, hurling two scoreless innings before being relieved by Shawn Dubin to open the fifth. Bloss threw 82 pitches in his first start since returning from the injured list (shoulder) and induced nine whiffs while throwing 13 first-pitch strikes (out of 18). He'll look to build off that performance in his next start following the All-Star break.
JULY 12, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Activated ahead of start The Astros reinstated Bloss (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday ahead of his start versus Miami, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Right shoulder inflammation has kept Bloss sidelined since June 22, but he's now been given the green light to return to Houston's rotation. It's likely he works under a pitch-count restriction during his first start back from the IL, however, as he was only able to reach 55 pitches during his rehab start. Kaleb Ort was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.
JULY 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Targeting Thursday return Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Bloss (shoulder) will likely start Thursday's game against the Marlins, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bloss' availability is still dependent on how he recovers from the bullpen session he threw Tuesday, but chances are that he will be able to take the mound for the first time since his MLB debut June 21. The 23-year-old righty built up to just 55 pitches during his lone rehab appearance in Triple-A, so it's likely he works under some sort of pitch count during his first start back from the IL. However, he will still have a favorable matchup against a Marlins offense that ranks last in the majors in OPS (.632).
JULY 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Throws 55 pitches Bloss (shoulder) completed four scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out three in a rehab outing with Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.
Impact The outing was Bloss's first rehab outing and he managed to throw 55 pitches. There hasn't been official word from the club, but he could be in the mix to start at some point during the team's homestand that begins July 9.

JULY 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Cleared for rehab start Bloss (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact It will actually be his Triple-A debut, as Bloss skipped over that level when he was promoted to make his major-league debut last month. He went down with right shoulder inflammation in that outing but has made a rapid recovery. With Justin Verlander (neck) ruled out through the All-Star break, Bloss could re-enter the Houston rotation next week.
JULY 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Set for bullpen session Bloss (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Impact Bloss has played catch a few times since landing on the injured list, but Sunday will mark his most intense activity. He's expected to return in early July, shortly after he is first eligible to be activated.
JUNE 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Plays catch Wednesday Bloss was spotted playing catch on the field Wednesday prior to the Astros' game against the Rockies, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact The Astros had initially planned for Bloss to resume playing catch Friday, but he was able to perform the activity a little sooner than expected. He indicated that all was fine with his right shoulder following the workout, but the real test for Bloss will come once he gets back on the mound and throws at full velocity. The rookie could play catch on a few more occasions before the Astros are comfortable clearing him for bullpen sessions.
JUNE 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
To resume throwing Friday Bloss (shoulder) will play light catch Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bloss was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation following his major-league debut, but he has a shot to return shortly after those 15 days are up. Whether he returns in the majors or minors could hinge on whether Bloss beats Justin Verlander (neck) back from the IL.
JUNE 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with shoulder inflammation Astros manager Joe Espada said Sunday that an MRI on Bloss' right shoulder revealed inflammation, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bloss landed on the injured list Saturday, and with the MRI showing inflammation in the right shoulder, the 23-year-old right-hander will refrain from throwing until it subsides. Bloss sustained the injury in his major-league debut Friday against the Orioles, when he was removed after 3.2 innings.
JUNE 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Lands on IL with shoulder injury The Astros placed Bloss on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right shoulder discomfort.
Impact Bloss was lifted from Friday's 14-11 win over the Orioles after allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings in his major-league debut. The Astros recalled right-hander Luis Contreras from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.
