Recalled, placed on 60-day IL
The Blue Jays recalled Bloss from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a right teres major strain, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Paul Sewald. Bloss has been sidelined for the past month with a teres major strain, and it's unclear when he might be ready to pitch again.

Reinstated from minor-league IL
Bloss (elbow) has produced an 8.18 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB in 11 innings over three starts between Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A New Hampshire since being reinstated from Buff...
Impact
Bloss opened the season on Buffalo's IL while completing his recovery from UCL repair surgery, which he underwent last May. He kicked off a rehab assignment May 12 and made five starts between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Dunedin before Buffalo activated him from the IL and assigned him to New Hampshire. After a lone start at the Double-A level, the right-hander was moved back to Buffalo for his last two outings. Bloss had been sharp throughout his rehab assignment, but he looks like he'll need some more time to shake off rust in the upper levels of the minors before potentially getting a look with the Blue Jays later on this season.

Coughs up four runs in rehab start
Bloss (elbow) struck out four and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk across three innings during his rehab start Saturday with Single-A Dunedin.
Impact
After turning in a 1.04 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 12:0 K:BB in 8.2 innings over his first three rehab starts between Dunedin and the Blue Jays' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, Bloss endured a bumpy outing for the first time during his minor-league assignment. On a positive note, Bloss built up to 58 pitches in Saturday's outing and continued to look good in terms of raw stuff, turning in a 42.9 percent whiff rate while averaging 95.5 mph with his four-seamer. The 25-year-old right-hander -- who is working his way back from May 2025 Tommy John surgery -- is likely to require two more rehab starts before being activated from the 60-day injured list. Bloss has a minor-league option remaining, but he's making a strong case during his rehab assignment for the Blue Jays to give him a look at the back end of the big-league rotation or as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.

Impressing during rehab stint
Bloss is showing improved stuff during his rehab assignment as he completes his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 24-year-old right-hander underwent the surgery last May, and over three rehab appearances between the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate and Single-A Dunedin, Bloss has produced a 12:0 K:BB over 8.2 innings. In his most recent start for Dunedin on May 24, Bloss built up to 50 pitches and was comfortably sitting 95-96 mph with his fastball, a big step up from the 93.4 mph he averaged with the pitch in 2024. He's scheduled to make at least one more rehab start, but he could be an option for the big-league rotation in early June as Toronto deals with injuries to Dylan Cease (hamstring), Max Scherzer (forearm), Shane Bieber (elbow) and other starting pitchers.

Kicks off rehab assignment
Bloss (elbow) struck out four over 2.1 scoreless innings Tuesday in his first rehab start with the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports...
Impact
It's the first game action for Bloss since he underwent UCL surgery last May. Acquired from the Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi trade in July 2024, Bloss will continue to be brought along slowly as he ramps things back up. The right-hander could become an option for the Toronto rotation sometime around midseason.

Shelved at Triple-A to begin season
The Blue Jays optioned Bloss to Triple-A Buffalo on March 8.
Impact
Buffalo placed Bloss on its 60-day injured list Friday, a transaction that was merely a formality since the right-hander is expected to be out for more than two months to begin the season while he completes his rehab from the UCL surgery he underwent last May. If Bloss has a smooth recovery and is quickly able to regain his pre-surgery command and velocity, he could be a candidate for a late-season call-up to Toronto.

Undergoing UCL surgery
Bloss (elbow) will undergo UCL surgery on his right elbow, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Bloss left his May 3 start with an elbow injury and now he'll need an unspecified procedure to repair his UCL. He impressed in the spring but struggled to a 6.46 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB in 23.2 innings across six appearances at Triple-A. Bloss could return in the middle or second half of next season, depending on the exact procedure he gets.

Working through elbow injury
Bloss got imaging on his right elbow Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact
Bloss left in the fourth inning of his last Triple-A start Saturday after experiencing discomfort in his throwing elbow. He's undergone testing to determine the severity of the injury, but the 23-year-old right-hander could be facing a stint on the 7-day injured list.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Bloss to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.
Impact
Bloss allowed eight earned runs across 8.0 innings in four appearances during spring training. His best outing came in his most recent outing March 10, when he pitched three scoreless innings. It was thought the 23-year-old had a chance at cracking the rotation to begin the season, but he will have to wait a little longer.
