Starting Sunday
Barria will start Sunday's game against the Twins, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact
Barria accompanied the Angels during their weekend road trip to Target Field, so it's not entirely surprising to see him named the starter for Sunday's series finale. However, manager Joe Maddon said Saturday that the team hasn't yet decided whether the team will use an opener ahead of the right-hander Sunday.

Could start Sunday
Barria has joined the Angels at Target Field and could start Sunday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The Angels are expected to shift to a six-man rotation for now, and Barria appears to be in line to start Sunday's series finale in Minnesota. The right-hander has allowed seven runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out one in six innings across two relief appearances this year.

Recalled Saturday
Barria was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Saturday's game against the Tigers.
Impact
This will mark Barria's third stint with the big club this season. He struggled in his first appearance April 10, allowing seven runs across just two innings. The reliever bounced back in his next outing with the Halos, tossing four scoreless innings May 18 against Cleveland, but was still optioned back to Salt Lake the next day. He's been serving as a starter in Triple-A, so he should be able to provide length out of the Angels' bullpen. Kean Wong was optioned to Salt Lake in a corresponding roster move.

Recalled by Angels
Barria was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Impact
Barria has made just one big-league appearance this season, allowing seven runs in two innings of work while walking four and failing to strike out a single batter. He'll give the Angels length out of the bullpen, with Jose Suarez getting optioned in a corresponding move.

Blasted in first 2021 appearance
Barria pitched two innings against Toronto on Saturday, allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks without striking out any batters.
Impact
Barria was recalled from the team's alternate training site on Saturday and immediately got a chance to contribute after starter Jose Quintana lasted only 1.2 innings. Barria inherited a seven-run deficit and retired his first batter to end the second frame and stop some of the bleeding, but he was subsequently knocked around himself and left with the Angels down by a score of 14-1. The right-hander threw 72 pitches in the relief appearance, likely taking him out of the picture for another outing for the next several days.

Called up by Angels
Barria was recalled by the Angels on Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Barria was part of the Angels' taxi squad for their current road trip, and he'll join the major-league bullpen after right fielder Dexter Fowler (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Barria made seven appearances (five starts) for the Angels last year and posted a 3.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 32.1 innings.

Travelling with team
Barria is part of the Angels' taxi squad on their current road trip, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact
Barria was among the final spring roster costs for Los Angeles, and he'd likely be the first option for a call-up should a spot in the bullpen open up. Though the right-hander isn't eligible to play in games as part of the taxi squad, he'd be almost immediately available to move to the active roster should a member of the team's relief corps require a stay on the injured list.

Sent to minors
Barria was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.
Impact
The Angels were granted another option year this season for Barria by an independent arbiter earlier in March, and the team will promptly take advantage by sending him to the minors to begin the campaign. Barria had a 3.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB over 32.1 innings for the Halos in 2020 and should rejoin the bullpen mix at some point this season.

Granted another option year
The Angels were granted another option year on Barria by an independent arbiter Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact
The arbiter's ruling indicated that last year's abbreviated campaign should not count toward one of Barria's three option years. The decision is significant in that it gives the team valuable roster flexibility. The right-hander can now be moved freely between the minors and majors without being subjected to waivers, which increases the likelihood that he will open the campaign at the Angels' alternate training site.

Role could depend on options
The Angels are waiting to find out whether Barria will be granted an extra year of minor-league options before determining whether he'll open the season on the big-league roster or...
Impact
Barria made five starts during the abbreviated 2020 campaign, and the organization could elect to have him stretch out in the minors to begin the 2021 season to increase its rotation depth. However, that scenario is dependent on the right-hander having another year of options. If Barria is determined to be out of options, he'll need to be placed on the active roster and would likely come out of the bullpen to start the campaign.

Reports to camp
Barria has reported to spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Barria missed the first several days of camp due to visa issues, but he recently joined the team and is unlikely to be impacted by his brief absence. The right-hander should take on a swingman role for the Angels once again in 2021 after posting a 3.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 32.1 innings across seven appearances (five starts) last season.
