Shelved by shoulder tendinitis The Rockies placed Hill on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder tendinitis.

Impact It's unclear how long Hill's shoulder has been bothering him. He's notched saves in two of his last three outings but has had a rough June overall, allowing nine runs with a 5:8 K:BB over six innings covering nine appearances. Hill will be eligible for activation in early July, but with the nature of the injury, he could require additional down time.

May be emerging as COL's closer Hill recorded a save against Pittsburgh on Saturday, striking out one batter over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.

Impact Hill entered with a tough task, as he was asked to protect a one-run lead with runners on the corners and one out in the ninth inning. The right-hander hit Nick Gonzales with a pitch to load the bases but then got Tyler Callihan to strike out before inducing a game-ending grounder. The final play was a bit chaotic -- Jake Mangum appeared to have tied the game with an infield single, but a baserunner interference call at third base wiped out the would-be hit and ended the contest. Still, Hill got the job done, and he's now registered each of the Rockies' past two saves. It would probably be premature to declare him Colorado's primary closer, but he certainly appears to be in the mix moving forward.

Impact With Colorado up by three runs heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, manager Warren Schaeffer turned to Hill to close things out. The right-hander did so without any drama, setting the side down in order on 12 pitches. It was the first save of Hill's career in his 67th outing, all of which have been out of the bullpen. Hill does have a career-high 11 holds on the campaign, so he's been given more high-leverage duties this year. The back of Colorado's bullpen is highly unsettled, and no pitcher on the squad has more than four saves this season, so it's certainly possible that Hill will get more save chances moving forward given his effectiveness Tuesday.

Impact Hill was a steady presence for the Rockies last season after getting called up in late July as a low-leverage reliever. The right-hander has already appeared in nine games this season and has only given up one run, way back in his first outing March 28. He has issued at least one walk in four of his nine outings, however. With Colorado employing an opener often this season, look for Hill to continue seeing plenty of work out of this bullpen.
