Brewers take 3-game slide into matchup with Cubs
Milwaukee will try to break its three-game losing streak when the Brewers take on Chicago

Moves to IL
The Brewers placed Nottingham (thumb) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Impact
Nottingham was one of four Milwaukee players placed on the IL as the Brewers pared down their active roster to 26 men in advance of Opening Day. The 25-year-old didn't see any action behind the plate this spring while recovering from left thumb surgery, but he was cleared to catch bullpen sessions before the end of camp. He doesn't appear likely to miss significant time to begin the season.

Likely bound for IL
Nottingham (thumb) has resumed catching bullpen sessions, but he's expected to open the season on the 10-day injured list, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Nottingham has experienced a few minor setbacks in his recovery from the surgery he underwent on his left thumb in late December, so the Brewers appear inclined to take it slowly with the 25-year-old to begin the season. Though Nottingham has yet to catch in a game situation, he's seen action as a designated hitter in Cactus League contests, going 1-for-10 with a home run. Nottingham's likely move to the IL clears the way for Manny Pina to break camp with the Brewers as the No. 2 catcher behind Omar Narvaez.

Making spring debut
Nottingham (thumb) will serve as the Brewers' designated hitter and will bat ninth Sunday in Milwaukee's Cactus League game against the Mariners.
Impact
Nottingham will be making his spring debut after the Brewers brought him along slowly to start camp while he worked back from December surgery on his left thumb. Though the thumb no longer appears to be troubling Nottingham at the plate, he'll have to prove he can handle catching duties without issue in order to make a run at an Opening Day roster spot.

Getting at-bats Friday
Nottingham (thumb) will take some at-bats in an intrasquad game Friday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact
He is still not ready to catch in games while recovering from left thumb surgery, but this is an encouraging step. Nottingham projects to open the year in extended spring training, as Omar Narvaez and Manny Pina seem to have a pretty firm hold on the top two spots on the depth chart at catcher.

Cleared to hit
Nottingham (thumb) took batting practice Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Nottingham has been brought along slowly to start camp after undergoing thumb surgery in late December. His status for Opening Day remains up in the air. Nottingham is out of options, so he'll have to beat out Omar Narvaez or Manny Pina for a roster spot or be exposed to waivers.

No return timeline
Nottingham (thumb) has yet to resume baseball activities and has no timetable for his return, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact
It was reported earlier in February the 25-year-old was expected to be back on the field March, 1, but that's unlikely if he has yet to begin participating in baseball activities. Nottingham underwent surgery on his left thumb in late December and is potentially in danger of missing Opening Day.

Nearing return to field
Nottingham (thumb) is expected to be back on the field on March 1, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Nottingham injured his left thumb during a Wild Card game against the Dodgers and later underwent surgery in December. The procedure will slightly delay his start to camp, though he may still have time to ramp up for Opening Day. There's no guarantee he wins a job, however, as Omar Narvaez and Manny Pina (knee) are also on the roster.

Undergoes thumb procedure
Nottingham had successful surgery on his left thumb Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The 25-year-old appeared to sustain the injury during the loss to the Dodgers in Game 2 of the Wild Card Round, though it's unclear why he waited until now to receive the surgery. Regardless, Nottingham will have less than two months to recover before the expected start of spring training in February.
