Recalled from Triple-A The Astros recalled Amaya from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Impact With Chas McCormick (hamstring) headed for the 10-day IL, Amaya will come up from the minors to give the Astros an additional bench bat. However, the 25-year-old infielder is slashing just .190/.297/.302 across 74 plate appearances at Triple-A, so he likely won't see much playing time while with Houston.

Optioned back to Triple-A Miami optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Impact Amaya went 2-for-9 with no walks and one strikeout during his brief stay on the Marlins' major-league roster. The 24-year-old middle infielder has slashed .278/.346/.472 with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 58 games this season at the Triple-A level and should get another opportunity later this summer.

Impact With Jazz Chisholm and Luis Arraez seemingly locked in as the Marlins' Opening Day starters in the middle infield, Amaya was never a realistic candidate to break camp with the big club. After being acquired from the Dodgers in January in the deal that sent Miguel Rojas to Los Angeles, Amaya will likely have a clearer path to reaching the big leagues in 2023 with his new organization. He was productive in his first taste of the Triple-A level with Oklahoma City in 2022, slashing .259/.368/.381 with eight home runs and three stolen bases across 351 plate appearances.

Impact While Amaya was repeating Double-A this year, he did so in very impressive fashion. The 23-year-old shortstop hit .264/.370/.500 with nine home runs, three steals and a 120 wRC+. Most notably, he had by far the highest ISO (.236) of his career while trimming his K% from 21.6% in 2021 to 13.4% this season and increasing his BB% from 10.9% to 14.8%.

Impact He's also averaging nearly a run per game -- 31 in 34 contests. The 23-year-old didn't come into the season with a reputation as a power hitter -- he socked just 12 homers with a .343 slugging percentage in 113 Double-A games last year -- but he's certainly muscled up this season. Amaya has always been considered an excellent defender, which should help punch his ticket to the big leagues as soon as next season, though his long-term outlook will hinge on whether he can carry this season's impressive power gains forward. At worst, he's an excellent utility infielder, but if he can keep hitting like this, he's got chance to be considerably more than that.
