Sent down to minors Pittsburgh optioned Mattson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, reports Alex Stumpf of MLB.com

Impact Mattson last appeared for the Pirates on Sunday, pitching one scoreless inning on the back end of back-to-back appearances. The 30-year-old has a 4.12 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 19.2 innings for Pittsburgh. The right-hander will make his first Triple-A stint this season as the corresponding move sending Wilber Dotel to the big league club.

Impact Mattson was a revelation out of the bullpen for the Pirates last season posting a 2.45 ERA in 44 appearances after only making seven appearances before being called up in May. The right-hander has had a heavy workload so far pitching in six out of Pittsburgh's 10 games posting a 3.00 ERA and seven strikeouts. The Pirates bullpen does not have many proven right-handers other than Dennis Santana, which means Mattson could continue appearing in many games this season.
