Nationals take opening series in Chicago with 6-3 win over Cubs

Homers again Sunday Happ went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals.

Impact Happ and Alex Bregman accounted for all of Chicago's offense Sunday, with Bregman going deep twice and Happ once. For the latter, it was his second long ball in as many games. Happ is locked in as the Cubs' No. 3 hitter most days, and with a strong lineup around him that was boosted by the offseason addition of Bregman to bat second, the veteran outfielder could be in store for an excellent fantasy campaign.

Goes deep Saturday Happ went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 10-2 win over the Nationals.

Impact Happ batted third and connected for his first home run of the season in the sixth inning with two runners on. The veteran outfielder blasted 23 long balls during the regular season last year, and he's hit 20 or more bombs in four of the last five seasons while playing in at least 148 games each year. Happ should continue to serve as an offensive catalyst for the Cubs batting near the top of the order all season.

Impact Happ is entering the final year of a three-year, $61 million contract extension he signed back in 2023. The veteran outfielder said he's open to discussing another extension, but the team has yet to approach him. Happ, who will turn 32 in August, has been a steady performer for the Cubs in recent years. He's recorded at least 20 home runs and 75 RBI in each of the last three seasons, and while he's only a career .247 hitter, Happ has been able to offset that with a strong on-base percentage. Chicago may not be in a hurry to commit to a player who has plenty of wear on the tires, though Happ has not shown any real signs of slowing down yet.
