Blue Jays LHP Ryu leaves after 4 innings with sore forearm

Blue Jays left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu exited his start against the Chicago White Sox after four innings because of tightness in his pitching forearm
JUNE 2, 2022 • Associated Press
Pulled with forearm tightness Ryu was removed from Wednesday's start against the White Sox due to left forearm tightness, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.
Impact Ryu allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks over four innings before exiting with the injury. The veteran left-hander experienced tightness in his left elbow during his previous start and also spent a month on the injured list earlier this season with forearm inflammation, and the recurring issues likely don't bode well for his availability in the immediate future.

Ready to go Wednesday The Blue Jays list Ryu (elbow) as their probable starter for Wednesday's home game against the White Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Even though he was pulled in his most recent start Thursday against the Angels due to left elbow tightness, Ryu looks like he completed a bullpen session over the weekend without incident. With the benefit of an off day Monday, Ryu will be returning to the bump on five days' rest rather than his usual four and shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload.

Chapman helps Blue Jays rally past Angels with 6-5 win

Managing elbow tightness Ryu was removed from Thursday's start against the Angels after five innings since he was experiencing tightness in his left elbow, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Ryu picked up his second win of the season during Thursday's matchup, but he was pulled after throwing just 65 pitches. The southpaw missed nearly a month with forearm inflammation earlier in the year, so it's somewhat concerning to see him dealing with an elbow issue during his third start after returning to the mound. However, Ryu is confident that he'll be available to make his next start. If he's healthy, he projects to start at home against the White Sox on Wednesday.

Earns another win Ryu (2-0) registered the win during Thursday's 6-3 victory over the Angels, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with one strikeout in five innings.
Impact Ryu was staked to an early four-run lead and limited the damage to two runs on three hits in the third inning for his second straight win. In three starts since returning from a forearm injury, the 35-year-old has allowed three runs in 15.2 innings compared to 11 through 7.1 innings in his first two turns. It all amounts to a 5.48 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in five starts while averaging fewer than five innings per start. He'll go for his third win when he faces the White Sox next week.

Secures first win of 2022 Ryu (1-0) picked up the win Friday, scattering six hits over six scoreless innings in a 2-1 victory over the Reds. He struck out three without walking a batter.
Impact The veteran lefty delivered a masterclass in working out of trouble, as he got tagged for doubles in five straight innings but never gave up more than one hit in any frame. Ryu tossed 52 of 78 pitches for strikes in his longest outing -- and first quality start -- of the season, and he appears to be back in form after missing nearly a month with a forearm issue.

Doesn't reach sixth in IL return Ryu (forearm) allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out three across 4.1 innings in a no-decision Saturday in the Blue Jays' 5-1 win over the Rays.
Impact Making his first start with the Blue Jays since April 16 after a four-week stint on the injured list due to forearm inflammation, Ryu looked to be on a limited pitch count. He was lifted midway through the fifth inning after tossing 71 pitches (44 strikes), despite doing a good job of limiting baserunners. The only damage against Ryu's ERA came in the first inning, when Yandy Diaz sent a wall-scraping home run over the right-field fence. Assuming Ryu feels fine physically after his between-starts bullpen session Monday, he should make his next turn through the rotation Friday at home versus the Reds.
