Yields three runs Ryu (13-10) was charged with the loss Tuesday against the Yankees after surrendering three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three across 4.1 innings.

Impact Ryu was activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's start after missing one turn in the rotation with a minor neck strain. The southpaw gave up a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the third frame, then ran into more trouble in the fifth, when he allowed an RBI single to Anthony Rizzo, who would be his final batter of the night. Ryu has seen his share of struggles in the latter half of the season but will look to get back on track during his next projected start at home Sunday against Baltimore. Across 30 appearances, the 34-year-old has put together a 4.39 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.

Impact Ryu will wind up missing just a single turn in the rotation due to a neck strain, an issue which was seemingly a minor one. The trip to the injured list may have been as much about clearing his head as anything, as the lefty owns an 8.10 ERA over his last eight starts and was particularly poor in his last two, giving up a combined 12 runs in just 4.1 innings of work. The Blue Jays will need Ryu to be at his best Tuesday, as they trail the Yankees by two games for the first wild-card spot and trail the Red Sox by one game for the second.

Impact Ryu apparently had the injury crop up when he woke up Saturday morning following his start Friday, and the Blue Jays hope he'll only miss one start. The veteran left-hander will be eligible to return for the Sept. 28 matchup with the Yankees. Ross Stripling is a likely candidate to fill in as a spot starter for Toronto.

Impact The southpaw ran into trouble in the third inning, and he exited after allowing back-to-back home runs to Jorge Polanco and Josh Donaldson. Ryu has allowed 12 runs in his last 4.1 innings across two starts. He left a Sept. 6 start versus the Yankees with forearm soreness, but he's been able to take his regular turn through the rotation despite the recent ineffectiveness. After the game, Ryu said he felt "physically fine" but added that he hasn't had the best control, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Ryu takes a 4.34 ERA and 1.21 WHIP into next week's projected start in Tampa Bay.
