Slated to start Monday
Mejia will be called up to start Monday's game against the Pirates, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Mejia was promoted to Triple-A Reno in early June, and he recorded a 5.93 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 54.2 innings across 12 starts. He made three starts for the Marlins last year and will make a spot start during Monday's series opener in Pittsburgh.

Arrives at camp
Mejia (visa issues) arrived at camp and participated in Saturday's workout, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Mejia made his MLB debut last season for Miami despite never appearing above High-A while in the Marlins organization. He's expected to to pitch in the minors for the Diamondbacks, who acquired him as part of a package from Miami in the Starling Marte deal.

Experiencing visa issues
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Mejia won't be available for the start of spring training due to visa issues, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Along with Mejia, fellow international players Humberto Castellanos and Carlos Navas will also be delayed arrivals to camp while awaiting clearance to travel to North America. Mejia was acquired from the Marlins in the offseason after giving up six runs in 10 innings over three appearances in his inaugural MLB campaign in 2020.

Optioned to alternate training site
Mejia was optioned to the Marlins' alternate training site Saturday.
Impact
Mejia has made three starts for the Marlins this year, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.90 WHIP over 10 innings as he was charged with losses in his past two outings. However, he'll return to alternate camp after Robert Dugger (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

Charged with another loss
Mejia (0-2) allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Nationals.
Impact
Mejia hasn't been very dominant over his first three major-league starts, and he was charged with his second consecutive loss Sunday. He's failed to last longer than four innings in any of his appearances and should find himself back with the alternate squad once the Marlins' starting rotation returns to full health. The right-hander now carries a 5.40 ERA and 11:6 K:BB over 10 innings this season. It's unclear whether he'll get another turn in the rotation in the near future.

Takes first loss Tuesday
Mejia (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings as the Marlins were downed 8-3 by the Mets. He struck out one.
Impact
The 23-year-old's second big-league appearance was bumpier than his first, as Mejia served up two homers among his 56 pitches (37 strikes). There's little to indicate he's ready for a regular spot in the rotation, but until the Marlins start getting pitchers back from the COVID-19 injured list, he'll continue to get pressed into service as the team's fifth starter. Mejia will carry a 5.68 ERA and 1.58 WHIP into his next outing Sunday, on the road against the Nats.

Sent to secondary site
Mejia was optioned to the Marlins' alternate training site Saturday.
Impact
Mejia skipped two levels to make his MLB debut amidst the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak and looked good, striking out six while allowing one run over 2.1 innings against the Mets on Friday. He seemed to have done enough to earn another appearance, though it's not clear when that will come.

Impressive in MLB debut
Mejia didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 win over the Mets, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out six.
Impact
Making his major-league debut, Mejia got an early hook after 67 pitches (43 strikes) but looked very good while he was on the mound, striking out Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto in the first inning before serving up a solo shot to Dominic Smith in the second. The 23-year-old right-hander mainly relied on his 92-94 mph fastball but effectively mixed in a curveball, slider and changeup, and this performance could have been good enough to earn him another start. The Marlins currently have two off-days set for Monday and Thursday next week, however, and their rotation plans are thus very flexible as they continue to patch together a roster in the wake of their COVID-19 outbreak.
