Outrighted to Triple-A The Diamondbacks outrighted Castellanos to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Impact As expected, Castellanos cleared waivers after Arizona designated him for assignment Aug. 11. Since he had been previously outrighted, Castellanos could have elected free agency, but he'll instead stick around in the organization with the hope of earning a call-up to Arizona later on this season. Castellanos worked out of the bullpen for his seven appearances with the big club earlier in 2024 but has been a regular member of the rotation at Reno, with whom he's compiled a 4.39 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 67.2 innings over 15 outings (14 starts).

DFA'd by Arizona The Diamondbacks designated Castellano for assignment Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact The 26-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Castellanos posted a 5.23 ERA in seven outings for the Diamondbacks, and he could remain with Reno if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Optioned to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Castellanos to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
Impact Castellanos served as Arizona's 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Guardians, although he didn't make an appearance. The righty could be put back into the rotation at Reno.

Back up as 27th man The Diamondbacks recalled Castellanos from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Castellanos was just optioned to Reno on Tuesday but is back to serve as the 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader in Cleveland. He will likely be sent back down again following Wednesday's twin bill.

Sent packing to minors The Diamondbacks optioned Castellanos to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Impact Castellanos holds a 5.23 ERA and 7:4 K:BB over 10.1 relief innings with Arizona this season. He's been used mostly as a starting pitcher at Reno and could return to that role.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Rejoins big club The Diamondbacks recalled Castellanos from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Impact The right-hander was sent to Reno on July 23 but will return to the majors as Bryce Jarvis (elbow) heads to the injured list. Castellanos has appeared in seven big-league games this season and has a 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB over 10.1 innings.
AUGUST 2, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Castellanos to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Impact Castellanos threw 40 pitches over three innings in a relief appearance in Monday's loss to the Royals, so he wasn't going to be available to pitch for at least a day or two. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Jordan Montgomery, who returns from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday in Kansas City.
JULY 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up first save Castellanos picked up the save in a win over the Padres on Saturday, striking out one over a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
Impact Castellanos took over with one out in the bottom of the 10th after Thyago Vieira managed to retire just one of the first four batters he faced to open the frame. The recently recalled 26-year-old was then able to retire the final two batters in succession to secure his first save of the campaign. Castellanos has now made two scoreless appearances since surrendering five runs in his season debut, allowing just one baserunner over that stretch.
JULY 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Outrighted to Triple-A Castellanos (elbow) was sent outright to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Impact Castellanos underwent Tommy John surgery in August, setting him up to miss the entire 2023 season. Before injuring his elbow in May, he had put up a 5.68 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 44.1 innings.
NOVEMBER 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes surgery Castellanos underwent Tommy John elbow surgery Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Castellanos had been an intriguing and emerging member of the rotation at the time of his elbow injury in late May. The right-hander could miss all of 2023.
AUGUST 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Needs Tommy John surgery Castellanos (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact This is one of the worst parts of the calendar to need the procedure, as it will be a challenge for Castellanos to get all the way back before the end of the 2023 season. He logged a 5.68 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 44.1 innings across 11 appearances for the big club.
AUGUST 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Slower than expected rehab Castellanos still feels tenderness in his elbow after numerous attempts to start a throwing program.
Impact The Diamondbacks placed Castellanos on the injured list with a right-elbow strain June 1, then two weeks later the right-hander was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said they've pulled back on pushing Castellanos, who is progressing slower than expected.
JULY 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Transferred to 60-day IL Castellanos (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Impact Castellanos hit the 15-day injured list at the start of June due to a strained right elbow. He still lacks a precise return date, though it's now clear that he won't be returning until the final day of July at the earliest. The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for the Diamondbacks to select Buddy Kennedy's contract.

Extent of injury being determined Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said the team is still trying to determine the extent of Castellanos' arm injury, which is being called a right forearm strain, Nick Piecoro of t...
Impact At the time Castellanos was placed on the 15-day injured list, the team described the injury as to his elbow, but now it's being called a forearm strain. Arizona's website continues to identify the injury as to the elbow. Either way, it's been nearly a week since the Diamondbacks placed the right-hander on the IL, which is not a positive sign.
JUNE 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on 15-day IL Castellanos was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain Wednesday.
Impact Castellanos has struggled over his last two outings, as he gave up 11 runs on 17 hits and three walks while striking out six in 8.2 innings during that time. He's apparently dealing with an elbow injury that will force him to miss at least a few turns through the rotation. It's not yet clear whether the right-hander will be forced to miss more than the minimum of 15 days, but Caleb Smith will likely be in the mix to fill in as a starter. Left-hander Paul Fry was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.
JUNE 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No-decision versus Atlanta Castellanos allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings versus Atlanta on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact Castellanos left the game with the Diamondbacks down 5-2, but they ultimately rallied to win in the 10th inning, getting the starter off the hook. This was the second consecutive start where Castellanos failed to complete five innings, though his other start in that stretch was against the Dodgers. The 24-year-old right-hander owns a 5.68 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB across 44.1 innings in 11 appearances (nine starts). He lines up for a road start in Cincinnati next week.
JUNE 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Hammered by Dodgers Castellanos (3-2) took the loss during Thursday's 14-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk with one strikeout in four innings.
Impact Castellanos served up two runs on three hits in the first inning and four more on six baserunners in the second, though he was able to limit the damage over the next two frames. Prior to Thursday's start, the 24-year-old owned a 3.32 ERA in 21.2 innings across four May starts with an average of 4.5 strikeouts per turn but was only able to manage one whiff and four swinging strikes on 96 pitches against Los Angeles. Castellanos will look to get back on track next week against Atlanta.

Picks up third win Castellanos (3-1) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Friday.
Impact Castellanos has been incredibly consistent over his last three starts, as he's pitched 5.1 innings in each of those outings. While he was forced to settle for no-decisions in his last two outings, he got plenty of run support Friday and earned his first win of the season. The right-hander has a 4.29 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 35.2 innings over nine appearances (seven starts) in 2022, and he tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Dodgers on Thursday.
MAY 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Surrenders two in no-decision Castellanos didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Impact Castellanos served up long balls to Rafael Ortega and Patrick Wisdom to lead off the first and second innings but was able to limit the scoring threats otherwise. Excluding a poor start April 28 against St. Louis, the 24-year-old has surrendered nine runs in 28.1 innings -- good for an impressive 2.81 ERA -- though he's yet to go six innings in any start. Castellanos is slated for a rematch with Chicago next weekend.

Allows three runs in no-decision Castellanos did not factor in the decision against Miami on Monday, completing 5.1 innings during which he allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four.
Impact Castellanos wasn't dominant in the performance, but he kept Arizona in the game and finished just two outs shy of a quality start. The right-hander gave up only one extra-base hit -- a fourth-inning homer off the bat of Garrett Cooper -- and threw 53 of 78 pitches for strikes. Castellanos will carry a 4.32 ERA into his next start, which is projected to come at home against the Cubs this weekend.
MAY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Fires 5.2 shutout frames Castellanos (2-1) earned the win Tuesday at Miami after allowing four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks across 5.2 scoreless innings.
Impact Castellanos gave up only two singles through five frames, and he allowed two more singles in the sixth before being pulled with two outs. It was the best start of the season for the 24-year-old, who surrendered five runs over two innings during his previous start. The right-hander has a 4.12 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB in 19.2 innings this season and tentatively lines up to to have a rematch with the Marlins on Monday.
MAY 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Shelled by Cardinals Castellanos (1-1) allowed five runs on five hits and one walk over two innings to take the loss against St. Louis on Thursday.
Impact Castellanos entered the contest with a tidy 3.00 ERA over 12 innings on the season, but that number ballooned to 5.79 after the Cardinals pummeled him with singles Thursday. None of the hits against the right-hander went for extra bases, and three of the runs he allowed came on sacrifice flies, but Castellanos simply permitted too many baserunners to last long in the contest. He'll look for better results in his next start, which is tentatively slated to come in Miami early next week.
APRIL 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Reinstated from paternity list Castellanos was reinstated from the paternity list Wednesday.
Impact Castellanos had been on the paternity list since Sunday, but he'll rejoin the team prior to Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks haven't yet announced a starter for Thursday's game against the Cardinals, but Castellanos is a strong candidate to take the mound since he last pitched in Saturday's win over the Mets.
