Mark Vientos - Connects for first spring homer Vientos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's split-squad game against the Nationals.
Impact Getting the start at first base and batting second, Vientos took Gus Varland deep in the eighth inning for his first long ball of the spring, but also struck out against PJ Poulin in the sixth. Vientos appears to have a spot on the Opening Day bench locked up, but with only two hits in 35 at-bats during Grapefruit League action (.057 batting average) and a 1:7 BB:K, the 26-year-old appears to be a long way from regular playing time.

Carson Benge - Probable Opening Day starter Benge is expected to be the Mets' Opening Day starter in right field, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 23-year-old's main competition for the job, Mike Tauchman, will miss out on a roster spot as a result of a knee injury that will require surgery. Benge may have won the spot outright anyway despite the fact that he has yet to make his major-league debut, as he's batted .368 (14-for-38) this spring with a 4:7 BB:K and some impressive defensive work in right field.
MARCH 22 ROTOWIRE
Vidal Bruján - Roster spot could be safe Brujan appears likely to fill the last spot on the Mets' bench with Mike Tauchman (knee) headed for surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Impact Tauchman's strong spring, along with an even more impressive camp for top prospect Carson Benge, put Brujan's spot on the 26-man roster in jeopardy, as New York could have gone without a backup shortstop and relied on players like Bo Bichette or Marcus Semien to cover the position when Francisco Lindor (hand) was unavailable. Instead, Brujan's job now appears safe. The 28-year-old switch hitter has batted .273 (9-for-33) this spring with four steals in four attempts, and his speed and defensive versatility will be his biggest assets on the Mets' bench -- Brujan played every position on the diamond except catcher and first base in 2025.
