Recalled, starting Ramirez was recalled from Cleveland's alternate training site and is starting Monday's game against the Royals.

Impact Ramirez will make his season debut in center field and bat sixth during Monday's series opener in Kansas City. The 26-year-old should be available as depth in the outfield going forward, but he could see playing time against left-handed pitchers. Outfielder Daniel Johnson and left-hander Kyle Nelson were sent down as part of a shuffle to make room for Ramirez on the major-league roster.

Joins taxi squad Cleveland announced Tuesday that Ramirez will be a part of its five-man taxi squad for its season-opening series in Detroit, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Impact Though Ramirez was unable to win a spot on Cleveland's 26-man Opening Day roster, he looks like he'll be first in line for a promotion if the club requires an extra outfielder. He saw action in the majors with the Marlins the past two seasons, slashing a collective .274/.311/.411 in 456 plate appearances.

Designated for assignment Ramirez (hamstring) was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Impact Ramirez missed most of the 2020 season after testing positive for COVID-19, and he was sidelined for the final month due to a left hamstring strain. He'll be removed from the 40-man roster to begin spring training in order to make room for right-hander John Curtiss. Over the past two seasons, Ramirez hit .274 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI over 122 games.
