INJURIES

Cut from big-league camp The Royals reassigned Castro to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Impact Along with Castro, fellow infielders Tyler Tolbert and Nick Loftin were sent out to minor-league camp, a likely indicator that Cavan Biggio will open the season in a utility role with Kansas City. The 31-year-old Castro saw big-league action in six straight seasons from 2018 through 2023 between stops with Detroit and Colorado, but he spent the entire 2024 campaign in the Mexican League.
MARCH 25 • ROTOWIRE
Latches on with KC Castro signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Saturday and received an invitation to spring training.
Impact Castro spent the 2024 season in the Mexican Baseball League, where he slashed .320/.366/.447 across 363 plate appearances. He'll now attempt an MLB comeback after putting up solid numbers in Mexico, though there's a good chance his return to affiliated ball begins at Triple-A Omaha.
JANUARY 18 • ROTOWIRE
Sent outright to minors The Rockies sent Castro outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Impact Castro slashed .252/.275/.314 with 31 RBI across 270 plate appearances with the Rockies in 2023, and he will remain in the organization after clearing waivers. Barring a significant turnaround, the 29-year-old infielder seems unlikely to have a significant role with Colorado in 2024.
OCTOBER 13, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Drives in two Sunday Castro went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the White Sox.
Impact Castro has seen limited playing time in August, with this being just his seventh game for the month. He's gone 4-for-14 with four RBI in that span. The 29-year-old is slashing .267/.283/.332 with one home run, 29 RBI, 23 runs scored and 12 doubles through 241 plate appearances this season. With Brendan Rodgers heating up over the last week, Castro's best path to playing time at second base appears to be closing up.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Likely headed for utility role Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Impact The 29-year-old has filled the strong side of a platoon at second base for most of the season, but he'll likely transition into a utility role after Brendan Rodgers made his return from the 60-day injured list Monday. The lefty-hitting Castro is on the bench for a second straight day, even with the Padres bringing a right-hander (Nick Martinez) to the hill.
AUGUST 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Not in lineup Friday Castro is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Athletics.
Impact Alan Trejo will start at second base and bat eighth. He and Castro continue to share a lefty-righty platoon at the keystone for Colorado.
JULY 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Tuesday Castro is not in the lineup Tuesday at Washington.
Impact Castro went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the Rockies' series-opening defeat of the Nationals on Monday, but Alan Trejo will get the nod at second base and bat eighth in Tuesday's tilt.
JULY 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Joins lineup versus left-hander Updating a previous report, Castro will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Nationals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Rockies released a lineup earlier Monday that didn't include Castro, but he'll end up re-entering the starting nine after all. Though he typically gives way to platoon mate Alan Trejo at the keystone when the Rockies oppose lefties like the Nationals' Patrick Corbin, Colorado will make room for both Castro and Trejo by deploying the latter at third base in place of a resting Ryan McMahon.
JULY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench again Tuesday Castro is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
Impact Castro will be on the bench for the second straight game while the Rockies oppose another southpaw (Patrick Corbin). Platoon mate Alan Trejo will fill in for Castro at second base.
JULY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Idle versus lefty Castro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Impact The lefty-hitting Castro will retreat to the bench while southpaw Jesus Luzardo takes the hill for Miami. The Rockies will turn to Alan Trejo to fill in for Castro at second base.
JULY 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Saturday Castro isn't in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against San Francisco, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Impact Castro is 5-for-15 with an RBI and two runs scored through the first week of July, and he'll catch a breather Saturday. Alan Trejo will start at the keystone in Castro's place and bat seventh.
JULY 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tallies three hits Castro went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Tigers.
Impact Castro had gone 12 games without a multi-hit effort, batting .250 (7-for-28) with a home run and four RBI in that span. He played well Sunday, twice coming home on sacrifice flies from Brenton Doyle. Castro is batting .281 with a .643 OPS, one home run, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and eight doubles through 179 plate appearances this season. He's on the strong side of a platoon at second base, sharing the position with Coco Montes.
JULY 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out against lefty Castro isn't in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact With Clayton Kershaw set to take the mound for Los Angeles, the left-handed bat of Castro will remain in the dugout to begin Tuesday's game. Coco Montes will start at second base and bat eighth.
JUNE 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench versus southpaw Castro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Impact Castro will head to the bench for the fifth time in Colorado's past six games, with all but one of those absences coming against a left-handed starter. Coco Montes is starting at the keystone Sunday against Halos southpaw Tyler Anderson.
JUNE 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting versus lefty Castro isn't starting Friday against the Angels, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact With left-hander Patrick Sandoval scheduled to pitch Friday for Los Angeles, Castro will remain on the bench to begin the game. Coco Montes will start at second base and bat seventh in Castro's absence.
JUNE 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench against southpaw Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
Impact The lefty-hitting Castro will step out of the lineup in the series finale while Cincinnati brings southpaw Andrew Abbott to the bump. Castro's platoon mate, Coco Montes, will pick up the start at second base Wednesday.
JUNE 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Goes deep in loss Castro went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.
Impact Castro took Ben Lively deep to right center in the fourth for his first home run of the year. He's notched a hit in each of his last five starts but seems to have recently shifted into a strong-side platoon role at second base with Coco Montes. The 29-year-old Castro now sits at a slash line of .268/.288/.342 with 19 RBI, 15 runs and a 5:31 BB:K over 157 plate appearances.
JUNE 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Idle versus southpaw Castro is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Impact With lefty Brandon Williamson on the bump for Cincinnati, the lefty-hitting Castro will take a seat for the series opener. Coco Montes will fill in at second base for Castro, who still appears to have a hold on a strong-side platoon role.
JUNE 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench again Friday Castro is out of the lineup Friday against Atlanta.
Impact Coco Montes will draw another start at second base with left-hander Jared Shuster on the mound for Atlanta. Castro also sat against a righty Thursday and may be at risk of losing more and more playing time. He's slashed just .263/.280/.314 through 144 plate appearances this year for Colorado.
JUNE 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench against lefty Castro is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact The lefty-hitting Castro will take a seat for the series opener with Boston bringing a southpaw (James Paxton) to the hill. Rookie Coco Montes -- who went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Padres in his MLB debut -- will pick up a second straight start at the keystone in place of Castro.
JUNE 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Remains on bench Castro is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Castro will remain on the bench for a second straight game as the Rockies wrap up their series with the Padres. Coco Montes was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque and will make his major-league debut at second base, batting seventh against San Diego.
JUNE 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Saturday Castro is not in Saturday's lineup against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Castro is hitting .238 with three runs and one RBI in 21 at-bats this month. Alan Trejo gets the start at the keystone while batting eighth.
JUNE 10, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Tuesday Castro is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Giants.
Impact Alan Trejo will start at second base and bat eighth for the Rockies as the Giants try a bullpen game featuring opener John Brebbia. Castro should be an option off the bench.
JUNE 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out against lefty Castro isn't in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against Kansas City.
Impact With Daniel Lynch set to take the mound for the Royals on Saturday, the left-handed Castro will begin the game in the dugout. Alan Trejo will take over at second base and bat eighth.
JUNE 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Two hits Thursday Castro went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Impact Castro has been hot recently, going 8-for-24 over his last six games, boosting his slash line to .279/.293/.342 through 117 plate appearances. The former Tiger isn't likely to provide much power, despite playing half his games at Coors Field -- he's yet to homer this season after hitting seven in 120 games last year. Still, he should continue to serve as the Rockies' primary second baseman against right-handed pitching.
