Impact Manager A.J. Hinch tabbed Soto as his 2022 closer back in October, so he seemed pretty certain of that declaration. Chafin had a strong 2021 with a 1.83 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and five saves of his own, but he looks like a solid setup option at this point rather than a true challenger to Soto. The latter did record 18 saves in 19 chances last year, so he's probably earned at least a little job security heading into the season.

Lands on IL, done for season The Tigers placed Soto on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a fractured left ring finger and won't return this season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Soto is eligible to return for the final few days of the season, but he'll instead be shut down while dealing with the fracture in the tip of his left ring finger, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News.
