Impact Kirby was decent Tuesday in striking out an impressive nine batters while allowing four total runs in three different innings. The 24-year-old has shown promise through four starts with a 19:2 K:BB ratio though he's now surrendered nine runs across his last 10 innings. Kirby will go for his first win early next week against Baltimore.

More tellingly, Kirby struck out only one batter and notched a mere seven swings-and-misses. He was inefficient as well, needing 89 pitches (60 of which were strikes) to get through four frames. Despite the mediocre outing, there's still plenty to love about Kirby's arsenal and upside, and he'll likely get the opportunity to bounce back with another start. That is expected to take place in Boston next week.

Kirby, the No. 20 overall selection in the 2019 first-year player draft, dazzled over his five starts at Arkansas this season, posting a 1.82 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB in 24.2 innings. Since Kirby didn't cover more than 68 innings in any of his first three seasons in the professional ranks, the Mariners will likely manage his workloads carefully in his first taste of the big leagues.
