Moving to Triple-A on Wednesday Moreno (thumb) will be activated from the 7-day injured list and promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star reports.

Impact Moreno has been rehabbing in the Florida Complex League in recent weeks after being sidelined since late June with a thumb fracture. With his rehab assignment set to end, the backstop will also be receiving his first promotion to Triple-A after slashing an impressive .373/.441/.651 to begin the campaign with Double-A New Hampshire. A strong start with Buffalo could go a long way in boosting Moreno's case for an early-2022 big-league call-up.

Begins rehab assignment Moreno (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment this week in the Florida Complex League, Future Blue Jays reports.

Impact The FCL Jays were rained out Tuesday, but Moreno should soon get into game action. He has been out since June 25 with a minor thumb fracture. Moreno is a strong candidate to go to the Arizona Fall League to make up for lost time.

Out with thumb fracture Moreno was placed on the injured list at Double-A New Hampshire on Wednesday due to to a minor thumb fracture, Sam Dykstra of MLBPipeline reports.

Impact Per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Moreno suffered the injury when he was hit on the thumb by a pitch and he's expected to miss multiple weeks. Moreno seemed to be nearing a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo with an outside chance of making it to the big leagues in September, but the injury will certainly make reaching both of those milestones a far more difficult task. The catcher has slashed an outstanding .373/.441/.651 with eight homers and 46 RBI across 145 plate appearances with New Hampshire this season.

Impact The 21-year-old continues to dominate Double-A pitching, as he homered for the third straight game to push his slash line to .388/.438/.690 through 29 games with eight homers and a stunning 40 RBI. A promotion in the near future to Triple-A seems inevitable for Moreno, who is putting himself in position for a big-league debut perhaps as soon as September.

Impact The 21-year-old has hit at every level he's played in organized ball, and the jump to Double-A hasn't slowed Moreno down at the plate. The Jays have little reason to rush him up the ladder, but Moreno could force a promotion to Triple-A before long if he proves he's ready for a new challenge.

Impact Moreno last played at Low-A Lansing in 2019, slashing .280/.337/.485 over 341 plate appearances. He'll likely make the jump to High-A Vancouver or possibly even Double-A New Hamsphire to begin 2021 as the Blue Jays look to get his developmental timeline back on track following the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season.
