GAME LOG

INJURIES

Drawing first start of second half Hughes will start Friday's game versus the Reds, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Hughes pitched well in his first major-league start last week, striking out seven while limiting the Dodgers to three runs across six innings of work. That showing has earned Hughes at least one additional start, though he should be avoided for fantasy purposes with the outing against the Reds coming at Coors Field.

Earns first quality start Hughes allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Impact Hughes had a bumpy first inning, when he allowed all three runs. He settled in well, ending up at 94 pitches (68 strikes) to earn a quality start. The 24-year-old right-hander has made two appearances in the majors so far and will likely continue to fill a rotation spot while Tomoyuki Sugano (back) is out. That said, Hughes carries some risk if he ends up sticking around, as he'll have Coors Field as a home park.

First MLB start on tap Hughes will start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Following his call-up from Triple-A Albuquerque last week, Hughes made his MLB debut out of the bullpen Friday, collecting a save while allowing three baserunners over three scoreless frames. The 24-year-old righty will now get the chance to make his first big-league start, joining the Colorado rotation as a replacement for the injured Tomoyuki Sugano (back). Prior to his promotion, Hughes had been working out of the Albuquerque rotation and posted a strong 48:11 K:BB in 40.2 innings, though pitching in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League inflated his ERA (5.31) and WHIP (1.29).

Called up to Colorado The Rockies recalled Hughes from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Hughes will make his first-career major league stint after being called up by the Rockies on Wednesday. This season with Albuquerque, the 24-year-old posted a 5.31 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 48:11 K:BB in 40.2 innings. The right-hander is expected to initially work out of the bullpen despite starting in seven of his nine appearances in Triple-A. The Rockies designated John Brebbia for assignment to make room on the roster for Hughes.

Sent to Triple-A The Rockies optioned Hughes to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact Hughes was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster in November but won't be in the majors for Opening Day. The right-hander split most of last season between the Double-A and Triple-A levels, finishing with a 4.19 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 105.1 total innings.

NOVEMBER 21, 2025 • MLB.COM
Protected from Rule 5 Draft The Rockies selected Hughes' contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Impact Hughes is a 24-year-old right-handed starter who got his first taste of Triple-A action last season. He struggled at that level, posting a 5.11 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 48:29 K:BB over 61.2 innings spanning 14 starts, but he showed more promise at Double-A prior to his promotion, recording a 3.07 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across nine starts. Hughes was the 10th overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, and he underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2023. The Rockies clearly still see him as an eventual part of their rotation given his placement on the 40-man roster Tuesday.
NOVEMBER 19, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Making Cactus League start Saturday Hughes (elbow) is scheduled to make a two-inning start in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Hughes didn't make any minor-league appearances in the 2024 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery during the summer of 2023, but he returned to action in the Arizona Fall League, where he turned in an 8.31 ERA over 17.1 innings across six starts. Despite his poor results, the 23-year-old Hughes seemingly came out of the AFL without any issue, and he'll be facing no restrictions while he takes part in big-league camp as a non-roster invitee. Hughes isn't a serious candidate to break camp with the Rockies and will likely head to Double-A Hartford to begin the season.
FEBRUARY 20, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Facing hitters again Hughes (elbow) is scheduled to face hitters in live batting practice Tuesday at the Rockies' spring training facility in Arizona, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Hughes will throw approximately 25 pitches while mixing fastballs and changeups in what marks his first time facing hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last July. The 22-year-old right-hander resides on Double-A Hartford's 60-day injured list and is unlikely to pitch in the minors this season, though he could be cleared for action in the Arizona Fall League.
AUGUST 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes Tommy John surgery Hughes will undergo Tommy John surgery this week, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 10th overall pick in the 2022 Draft, Hughes has posted a 6.21 ERA between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford this season and now is set to have season-ending surgery. The operation will knock the right-hander out until at least late 2024 and perhaps until 2025.
