INJURIES

Losing ways continue Hughes (0-8) took the loss Sunday against the Tigers, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks in two innings. He struck out two.
Impact Hughes was ineffective all around Sunday, giving up three extra-base hits on the afternoon. It was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander, who hasn't worked into the sixth inning in any of his last seven starts. Still searching for his first win of the year, he'll take a 6.37 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 50:23 K:BB into his next scheduled appearance versus Seattle in hitter-friendly Colorado.

Still winless in 2026 Hughes (0-7) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out six across five innings. He did not issue a walk.
Impact It was a bit of a tough-luck loss for Hughes, especially with the Yankees scoring an unearned run in the first inning due to fielding and throwing errors by Jake McCarthy. Hughes kept the Yankees off the board over the next three innings before yielding a run in the fifth, and although the Rockies scored two late runs in the ninth, it wasn't enough for the 25-year-old right-hander to avoid the loss. He's allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts and has a 5.81 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 57.1 innings since making his major-league debut July 3. Hughes will look to secure his first big-league win in his next start, tentatively slated for this weekend on the road against the Tigers.

No-decision Tuesday Hughes allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four across 4.2 innings Tuesday against the Orioles. He didn't factor into the decision.
Impact Hughes held the Orioles to one run but couldn't make it through the fifth. The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs in that frame, prompting Colorado to summon Brennan Bernardino, who retired Gunnar Henderson to preserve the 2-1 lead. Hughes lowered his ERA to 6.19 with this outing, and this was the first time he didn't give up multiple earned runs since July 22. Hughes should make his next start on the road against the Yankees next week.

Impact Hughes has yet to record a win this season through nine appearances after picking up his fifth loss Saturday. However, the 25-year-old made just one error, allowing a three-run homer to Jo Adell in the fourth. On the year, Hughes owns a 6.54 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB over 42.2 innings. The right-hander is slated to make his next start Thursday against the Nationals.

Struggles again Sunday Hughes allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.
Impact That kind of stat line would be normal for a pitcher in Denver, but this game was in pitcher-friendly San Francisco. Hughes was in line for the loss, but the Rockies' offense bailed him out. He's allowed a total of 19 runs over 13.1 innings across three games in August, with his two worst outings so far coming on the road. He's posted a 6.69 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 33:13 K:BB through 37.2 innings overall. Hughes is projected to make his next start at home versus the Guardians.

Poor showing in loss Hughes (0-4) allowed seven runs on five hits, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out three over four innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Impact For the second start in a row, Hughes has allowed a season high in runs. He had largely kept things competitive in July, but with 12 runs allowed over his last 9.1 innings, he's starting to falter. He has posted a 5.61 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB through 33.2 innings over seven games (six starts) in the majors this season. He's projected to set a new career high in innings across all levels if he remains in the Rockies' rotation, but the workload increase is expected to be modest overall. Hughes' next outing is projected to be in San Francisco over the weekend.
AUGUST 11 • ROTOWIRE
Tagged for five runs Hughes allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Rays.
Impact Hughes gave up all five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Liam Hicks grand slam. This was Hughes' worst outing yet, though he was able to avoid a fourth consecutive loss with some help from the Rockies' offense. Hughes has pitched to a 4.25 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB through 29.2 innings over six games (five starts) in the majors. The rookie right-hander is projected to make his next start at Arizona.
